It’s strength vs strength this Sunday when the Miami Dolphins (8-3, 3-2 away) roll into San Francisco to take on the 49ers (7-4, 4-1 home).

The AFC East-leading Dolphins have ripped off five straight wins, and have been an offensive juggernaut, hitting 30+ points in four straight games.

San Francisco, tops in the NFC West, enters this one winners of four straight, with the NFL’s top-ranked defense, and an offense loaded with weapons just needing to find its rhythm.

It’s also a homecoming for Dolphins’ 1st-year head coach Mike McDaniel, who was the offensive coordinator for ‘Frisco last year.

Kickoff goes at 4:05pm ET this Sunday (Dec 3) from Levi’s Stadium, in a game you can see live on FOX.

Miami Betting Outlook

The Dolphins boast the NFL’s sixth-best scoring offense (25.6ppg), and they’ve really taken off since Tua Tagovailoa’s return from concussion. In those five starts, he’s averaged 305.8 passing yards, while completing at least 60% of his throws, and has 11 touchdowns against no interceptions.

His recent play has vaulted him to third in the 2023 NFL MVP odds.

The passing game should be where Miami makes most of its hay Sunday, as the Dolphins are 28th in the league in rushing, putting up just 94.8 yards per game. The Niners also boast the top rush defense in the NFL, holding teams to 79.5 yards per game.

That should work just fine, as the Fins boast the best receiving duo in the league in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The pair combined for 11 catches and 170 yards in a 30-15 win over the Houston Texans, a game Miami put into cruise control early, sitting Tua for the entire fourth quarter as they were up 30-0.

There are injury concerns for the Dolphins along a banged up offensive line. Starting tackles Terron Armstead (pectoral) and Austin Jackson (ankle) are both doubtful. That leaves Brandon Shell and Greg Little tasked with trying to contain a pass rush that’s top-10 in sacks. Nick Bosa has a team-high 11.5 sacks and 30 QB pressures this season.

San Francisco Betting Outlook

Scoring 13 points in an NFL game these days is a recipe for a loss. Not for the 49ers, who made that total virtually insurmountable as they pitched a 13-0 shutout over the New Orleans Saints in Week 12.

The Niners are the NFL’s top scoring defense, limiting teams to 15.7 points per game, and don’t give up much real estate. They surrender a miniscule 281.7 yards per game, the only team in the league to go sub-300.

Jimmy Garoppolo played mistake-free ball, going 26-for-37 for 222 yards and a score, but the run game struggled. The Niners could muster just 96 yards on 29 carries, a paltry 3.3 yard average.

Their attack will likely see a new face in the backfield, as Jordan Mason will step in for the injured Elijah Mitchell (knee). Christian McCaffrey, who totaled on 49 scrimmage yards on 15 touches, also missed practice this week, but should be able to play.

A couple of other key pieces found their way onto the injury report. WR Deebo Samuel (quad) and hulking tackle Trent Williams (back) are both listed as questionable.

Dolphins vs 49ers Pick

How will the Dolphins handle the level up in competition? They may be 5-0 ATS in their last five starts, but none of those teams were even at .500, and are a combined 23 games under .500 on the year.

The Niners haven’t had a murderer’s row either, but they have flexed during their streak, averaging 26 points per game and holding their opponents to 10 per contest.

Miami’s offensive line woes are a major deterrent, and San Francisco has only allowed two teams to break the 20-point mark on the year.

Still, I think Tagovailoa can make some plays. If he gets time to throw, this game has the potential to go down to the wire.

The Pick:

  • Dolphins +4 (-110); 1 unit to win 0.91 units
  • Week 12 Record: 0-1 ATS; Overall: 9-7 ATS, 0-1 ML; 1-0 O/U, -2.35 units
