While some of the NFL’s most intimidating teams reside in the NFC, you won’t find any of them in the NFC South.

Tampa Bay entered Week 13 atop the division. But that comes with a caveat, as they own a less-than-impressive 5-6 record. After back-to-back gutsy wins, Tom Brady’s squad was handed a disappointing overtime loss in Cleveland.

The Saints, meanwhile, aren’t out of it at 4-8. They just have to figure out who they are. There are weeks where they’ve put together good performances. Then there was last week against the 49ers where their offense managed 260 total yards.

Both teams have plenty to prove ahead of Monday Night Football with kickoff set for 8:15 pm ET. It’ll be a warm, clear night in Tampa.

Saints vs Buccaneers Odds

Team Moneyline Spread Total
New Orleans Saints +162 +3.5 (-110) Ov 40.5 (-110)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -195 -3.5 (-110) Un 40.5 (-110)

When the Bucs and Saints met in Week 2, Tampa was favored then, just not as heavily. This time around, Tampa is favored by 3.5 at home, but the total has taken a hit. 11 weeks later and we’ve gone from 44 to 40.5.

The books are banking on a bounce-back performance by a Bucs team that seems to be fighting it on offense. Surprisingly, Tampa Bay has scored more than 25 points just once this season. In that Week 2 meeting with the Saints they came away with a 20-10 win.

Saints vs Buccaneers Injury Report

There are a couple of key injuries on the Buccaneers’ defense that could swing this matchup.

A staple at one safety spot, Antoine Winfield Jr is doubtful with an ankle injury. That wouldn’t be so bad if Sean Murphy-Bunting (quad) and Mike Edwards (hamstring) weren’t doubtful as well.

That at least means an expanded role for Keanu Neal. Logan Ryan may play as well.

The Saints aren’t exactly a picture of good health either.

New Orleans had eight players miss the first two practice sessions of the week. Six of those players are on defense. The injury bug has really been targeting their depth in the defensive backfield.

Saints vs Buccaneers: Recent Results

In that Week 2 matchup, the Bucs’ defense was dominant.

They goaded Jameis Winston into three interceptions, including a pick-six, and sacked him six times. They also forced four fumbles, recovering two of them.

Andy Dalton has been sacked six times in the last three weeks combined. The Saints did give up four sacks to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9 though.

Saints vs Buccaneers: Last Five Games

Sept 18, 2022 Tampa Bay Buccaneers New Orleans Saints TB 20-10 TB -2.5 43.5 (UNDER)

If this matchup comes down to QBs, then it shouldn’t surprise you that Tom Brady is your guy.

Andy Dalton has finished with more than 250 passing yards twice this season. The interceptions have come in bunches as well, as he has games of two and three INTs.

Because of everything on and off the field, it doesn’t feel like Brady is leading the NFC in passing yards. But he is. And it’s not like he’s suddenly making devastatingly poor decisions, as he’s thrown just two picks on the year. It’s the 14 touchdowns in 11 games that’s uncharacteristic.

Saints vs Buccaneers Pick

Since coming to Tampa Bay, Brady has struggled against the Saints. Week 2 was his first regular season win against New Orleans with the Bucs, but he threw for just 190 yards and one touchdown.

The injuries to Tampa’s defense are discouraging, but New Orleans’ performances are even harder to get over.

This game should be decided by more than a field goal. Of course in saying that, now Brady will be driving for a game-winning kick down 21-20 with two minutes to go on Monday night.

It’s not the best payout, but stick with the Buccaneers outright on Monday.

The Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-195); 1 unit
