  • Josh Gordon has been suspended numerous times by the NFL
  • Antonio Brown was recently cut by the Raiders
  • Bettors can wager on who will be suspended or cut first by the Patriots, if either

Antonio Brown caused quite a problem for the Oakland Raiders this season over helmets, fines, threatening his GM, and asking for his release. But that didn’t stop the Patriots from signing him with lightning speed the second he obtained that sought-after released from the Raiders.

Meanwhile, the Pats also have Josh Gordon on their roster, a player who has been suspended numerous times by the NFL for drug violations. Now, online sportsbooks have released odds on who will be suspended or cut first by the Patriots.

Somewhat surprisingly, “Neither” comes in as the early favorite. Yet when you consider who they’re now playing for, it might be the best bet.

Will Gordon or Brown Be Suspended/Cut by Patriots First?

Outcome Odds
Antonio Brown +250
Josh Gordon +225
Neither -200

All odds taken 09/09/19. Wager only applies to 2019 regular season.

Although Antonio Brown has only been suspended once, by Oakland, and cut once, again by Oakland, he has been a huge headache for teams.

Following a tumultuous end in Pittsburgh, he had the whole helmet issue with the Raiders which saw him sit out team practices

When the team subsequently fined him, he made the situation very public by posting the letter of his fine on social media and asking for his release.

When he did get released, he posted a video on social media of him celebrating.

Gordon, meanwhile, has not had many problems with his teams, but rather with the league. Most of his suspensions have been by the NFL for drug violations. Though he was suspended once for a violation of team rules.

We all know Bill Belichick is an old-school coach who likes his locker room a certain way. How Brown and Gordon fit in the locker room and adjust to the “Do Your Job” motto of the Pats will be interesting. But, Belichick certainly seems ready to handle them.

“Yeah, Josh has worked hard,” Belichick said. “He’s created an opportunity for himself. But, you know, I’m excited for our entire team. We’ve got a lot of guys — everybody’s worked hard, put a lot into it. It’s time to start playing. It’s time to see where we’re at.

Will Either Be Cut or Suspended?

The team is invested in Brown and Gordon, and there’s no doubt they have the talent to help the Pats repeat as Super Bowl champions. So I highly doubt either will be cut by the team.

Yet, the suspension potential is very real. Gordon has entered rehab and hasn’t had any problems as of late, so he could have very well turned it around. But he also has a long history of relapses.

I don’t think either will be suspended or cut, and I would put my money on “Neither” at -200.

But between the two players, there’s better value on Gordon at +225 because, sadly, old habits die very, very hard.

Pick: Neither (-200)
