  • The Indianapolis Colts (1-1) host the Atlanta Falcons (1-1) this weekend
  • Adam Vinatieri has been the league’s worst kicker, missing two field goals and three extra points in just two games
  • Bettors can wager on whether he’ll miss another FG or XP in Week 3 versus Atlanta

The Adam Vinatieri retirement celebration has been put off at least another week but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some fun props to bet on this weekend.

Sportsbooks have posted odds on whether the (still) Colts kicker will miss a field goal or an extra point in Week 3’s Falcons vs Colts matchup this Sunday (Sep. 22nd, 1:00 PM ET).

Adam Vinatieri Week 3 Props

Prop Yes Odds No Odds
Will Adam Vinatieri Miss A Field Goal This Weekend? +100 -140
Will Adam Vinatieri Miss An Extra Point This Weekend? +300 -500

*Odds taken 9/20

The 46-year-old legend has fallen on hard times this season, already missing two field goals and three extra points in a span of two games. Will he have a repeat performance this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons?

Will Vinatieri Miss Any FG Attempts?

It’s quite clear Vinatieri is grinding through some things right now. Head coach Frank Reich would be pretty foolish to send out his aging kicker for any sort of difficult attempt. If they are wise in the positions they put Vinatieri in, he could return to being an accurate kicker like he was last year.

Vinatieri’s Stats: 2018 vs 2019

Year FGM FGA FG% XPM XPA XP%
2018 23 27 85.2% 44 47 93.6%
2019 1 3 33.3% 2 5 40%

The Colts are playing at home for the first time in the regular season and that should help Vinatieri. In a comfortable, indoor setting with a head coach treating him with kid gloves, it’s entirely possible he makes it through the game without a missed field goal.

PICK: NO (-140)

Will Vinatieri Miss Any Extra Points?

With the previous prop, there’s significant potential that he doesn’t even attempt a FG. That’s not the case here. There is no option for kid gloves when it comes to kicking a point after.

If the Colts score a touchdown, Vinatieri is trotting out onto the field unless Indy goes for two. I can’t see the team doing that after every TD, and there should be multiple against a middling (at best) Falcon defense. Going for two early in the game would effectively signal to Vinatieri that the team has zero trust in him, and it’s too early in the year to do that.

There are clearly some demons in Vinatieri’s head right now. He’s missed three extra points already this season, the same number he missed last year in 47 attempts.

I’m much less comfortable trusting him in this position. PATs are now 33 yards in the NFL (as of 2015), no gimme, especially for a struggling kicker.

There’s certainly better value on the “Yes” here at +300 than the “Yes” on a missed field goal at even money.

PICK: Yes (+300)
