Green Bay and Philadelphia go to war on the gridiron in the rematch of their thrilling Week 1 contest for the right to advance to the Divisional Round. Saquon Barkley scored three touchdowns in Sao Paulo to make his mark in his first game as an Eagle and will aim to emulate that performance on Sunday. However, those hoping for a repeat of the fireworks seen in Brazil in September will be disappointed.

Packers vs Eagles features two defenses that finishes in top-four in EPA per play allowed in 2024. Philadelphia finished third while allowing a success rate of just 39.9% on opposing offensive plays. Vic Fangio’s unit finished sixth in takeaways (26) and eighth in pass-rush win rate. Fangio has a history of limiting explosive plays, limited opponents to 11 plays of 25-plus yards during their 10-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, first-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has done an outstanding job rebuilding Green Bay’s defense. The Packers finished fourth with 31 takeaways and produced 41 sacks. Plus, Green Bay hasn’t allowed a play of 40+ yards since Week 1. Clearly, both of these defenses can get after the quarterback and create chaos. Buoyed by the play of rookie defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, the Eagles secondary underwent a remarkable turnaround this season. Philadelphia ranked first in PFF coverage grade at 92.9 – over eight points higher than the second-ranked Kansas City Chiefs. In fact, the Eagles entire secondary and standout linebacker Zach Baun allowed less than a 90 passer rating when targeted this season.

Additionally, both Jordan Love and Jalen Hurts face injury concerns heading into this Wild Card showdown. Love hurt his knee on the final drive of the Packers vs Eagles game back in Week 1, and left the Packers Week 18 contest against Chicago with an elbow injury. Love was masterful in December tossing for 1,244 yards and 11 touchdowns with just one interception. Having said that, if he has any limitations throwing the football down field against the Eagles elite passing defense, the Packers could struggle to put up points.

On the other side of the field, Hurts left the Eagles Week 16 clash against Washington with a concussion. The former Oklahoma star has had three weeks to recover, but rust is a real factor at this time of year. Especially for an offense that was hardly clicking at the time of his injury. If Hurts and his receivers aren’t on the same page, the Eagles will struggle to put up points against a stout Packers front. Philadelphia will need the dual-threat pivot to replicate his unbelievable 2022 playoff performance in order to make another run to the Super Bowl.
