  • The Indianapolis Colts are the +200 favorites to select Kentucky Wildcats QB Will Levis in the NFL Draft
  • There’s also a short betting line of +350 that it will be the Las Vegas Raiders who select Levis
  • Three other teams are showing odds shorter than +1000 in the NFL Draft odds to select Will Levis

If the status of Will Levis in the NFL Draft pecking order were an instrument for measuring weather, it would be a lightning rod. No quarterback in this QB-rich draft is creating as much of a heated debate about where and when they might go as there is around Levis.

His proponents cite the impressive physical tools of the Kentucky Wildcats QB. Critics, though, point to the fact that Levis actually was showing regression last season, his second as Kentucky’s starter.

There’s a number of NFL teams in need of help under center. Oddsmakers believe that the Indianapolis Colts are the most likely team to select Levis in the NFL Draft. The Colts are set at a favorite’s betting line of +200 in the NFL Draft odds.

The Good and Bad of Levis

The raw physical tools that Levis exhibits are what sets NFL scouts to salivating. He can throw a ball 60 yards on a rope. At 6-foot-4 and 229 pounds, he has both size and athleticism.

Levis has plenty of experience with play action working in Kentucky’s pro style offense. That should ease his NFL transition phase. He goes through his reads well and seldom tries to force a play that’s not there.

Shockingly, though, he struggles with his accuracy on shorter passing routes. At times, he puts too much air under his throws. enabling DBs to recover and make plays. Levis also doesn’t seem to show a feel for how to avoid a pass rush.

Colts Effective at Drafting Top QBs

Indianapolis is one of a number of NFL teams that will be giving Levis a private workout. In recent years, the Colts have opted for veterans under center – Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan – and it hasn’t worked.

When they do go for a QB early in the draft, it’s paid dividends. There was Andrew Luck first overall in 2012 and Peyton Manning first overall in 1998.

The Colts are picking fourth this year and that’s simply too early to roll the dice on Levis.

Titans Making a Lot of Sense

The Raiders dealt for Jimmy Garoppolo, so they won’t be in a hurry to draft a QB. Tampa Bay (Baker Mayfield) also added a new QB, while Seattle signed Geno Smith to a new pact.

Looking at the contenders, the most likely landing spot for Levis looks to be the Tennessee Titans. Ryan Tannehill is coming off an injury-plagued season. Malik Willis did little to suggest he’s the long-term answer under center.

Reports are that the Titans are really doing their due diligence where Levis is concerned. He’s already worked out for them. He can learn from Tannehill and eventually step into the starter’s role.

Pick: Tennessee Titans (+900)
