The Florida Panthers aim to push their first-round series with the Boston Bruins to a seventh and deciding game when they hit the ice for Game 6 on Friday night.

The Panthers never trailed on their way to a 4-3 overtime win on Wednesday night that cut Boston’s series lead to 3-2. However, Florida looks to Friday’s contest faced with the massive challenge of halting a four-game home losing streak.

Start time is set for 7:30pm ET at FLA Live Arena, with all the action televised on TNT, Sportsnet, NESN, and Bally Sports – Florida

Bruins vs Panthers Recent History

With Wednesday’s win, the Panthers have now earned the victory in four of nine overall meetings with the Bruins this season, including a pair of wins on home ice. However, the Panthers lost their two home games to date in this series, and fell to defeat in their past two Game 6 appearances when facing elimination.

Recent dates between these clubs have tended towards high scoring with the total reaching 6.0 or higher in nine of their past 10 matchups and the OVER going 7-3 over that stretch.

Boston Bruins Betting Outlook

The Bruins largely dominated in Game 6, outshooting Florida by a 47-25 margin and winning over 62% of faceoffs. However, they have been evenly matched by the Panthers in physical play, with Florida outhitting Boston by a 48-40 margin, and have been frustrated by the Panthers’ willingness to sacrifice the body, as evidenced by their 19 blocked shots on the night.

Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy led an efficient Bruins power play that scored twice on Wednesday. Marchand scored a goal and picked up two points while McAvoy contributed helpers on both goals with the extra man. Patrice Bergeron also scored in his return from injury.

But it was a tough night for Linus Ullmark, who wore the goat’s horns after committing a turnover that resulted in Matthew Tkachuk’s overtime winner. Reportedly still battling a nagging injury and worn down from a heavy workload, it is unclear whether Ullmark or Jeremy Swayman will get the call in the crease in Game 6.

Florida Panthers Betting Outlook

The Panthers needed a huge performance from Sergei Bobrovsky, and that is exactly what they got from their $10 million goaltender in Game 5. Warming the bench since enduring a three-game losing streak late in the regular season, Bobrovsky was rocked in his return to action in the team’s 6-2 loss in Game 5. However, it was a vintage SpongeBob Squarepads performance on Thursday night as the 34-year-old turned aside 44 of 47 shots to extend the series.

Matthew Tkachuk once again silenced the critics who questioned why Florida paid such a high price to acquire him in the offseason. Tkachuk remained a thorn in the side of the Bruins while tallying two points for the third time in the series including the game winner.

Aaron Ekblad and Anthony Duclair returned to the lineup after missing time due to injury. However, Brandon Montour was forced to leave the game briefly in the third after getting hit by a shot just prior to the Bruins’ game-tying goal, adding to the injury concerns already plaguing this club.

Bruins vs Panthers Game 6 Prediction

For the first five games of this series, it has been fairly easy to simply predict wins by the top-seeded Bruins. However, it has become clear that if the Bruins are to continue their widely expected march to the Stanley Cup Final after a record-setting regular season, they will have to pay a high cost, both emotionally and physically.

With both these teams licking wounds, sports bettors should expect another hard-fought physical contest on Friday. And with Florida enjoying the benefit of a fresh superstar goaltender, it is tough to ignore the value in the Panthers’ odds to force Game 7.

The Pick: Panthers (+145); UNDER 6.0 (+100)
