After handing the Carolina Hurricanes their first loss of the postseason, the Montreal Canadiens fight to head back to Montreal up 2-0 in their Eastern Conference Final series. The Hurricanes enter the affair as solid home favorites in the NHL odds, holding a 64.9% implied win probability over the visiting Canadiens.
The focus of this article will be on player props for a crucial Game 2 tilt Saturday night. In the Stanley Cup odds, Carolina is the slight favorite to lift Lord Stanley over Vegas, with Montreal the third choice and Avalanche last. Keep reading for my favorite props for tonight’s duel in Raleigh, which can be seen on TNT/truTV/HBO Max in the United States and Sportsnet in Canada.
Canadiens vs Hurricanes Series Overview
In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final, the Habs shocked the hockey world by boat racing the Canes out of their own building 6-2. Juraj Slafkovsky emerged as the immediate standout, lighting the lamp twice (including an empty-netter) and adding an assist. Center Nick Suzuki was equally brilliant as a playmaker, tallying three assists to overwhelm Carolina.
Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov managed just one assist apiece while firing three and two shots on goal, respectively. Seth Jarvis and Eric Robinson provided the only markers for the Hurricanes. Jakub Dobes stopped 26 of 28 shots for a .929 save percentage, while Frederik Andersen struggled, allowing five goals on 21 shots. He’d surrendered five total goals in each of the first two round sweeps over Ottawa and Philadelphia.
MTL vs CAR Player Prop Picks
Nick Suzuki OVER 0.5 Assists (-135 at DraftKings)
For the NHL player props, Nick Suzuki is the undisputed offensive facilitator for the Montreal Canadiens. Through 15 postseason games, Suzuki leads the team with twelve assists and 16 total points. That’s tied for the second most helpers in the postseason, and he had three apples in Game 1.
Suzuki has assists in four of his last six outings, racking up seven helpers in the process. Game 1 showed that this series may be wide open and a track meet back and forth, so I expect the Habs captain to pick up at least one assist.
Juraj Slafkovsky OVER 0.5 Goals (+230 at FanDuel)
Bettors seeking a high-upside plus-money swing will find tremendous value in Juraj Slafkovsky. He sits second on the Canadiens with six goals, with four of those markers coming on the power play. He’s a volume shooter, leading Montreal with 44 shots on goal.
The 2022 first overall pick has exceeded 2.5 shots on goal in five straight games following a win, and is on the same line as Suzuki, so perhaps you can double down on the Suzuki assist to Slafkovsky marker. That’s occurred on four of Slafkovsky’s six snipes in the postseason.
