The Tampa Bay Lightning are listed as heavy favorites to take a 2-0 series lead over the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021 Stanley Cup Final. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30th at Amalie Arena. Puck drop is 8 PM EST on NBCSN.

The Bolts flexed their muscles in a commanding 5-1 win over the Habs in Game 1. Tampa Bay has won 10 of the last 11 meetings with Montreal dating back to 2018. Victor Hedman and Andrei Vasilevskiy were both favored to win at the 2021 NHL Awards last night, but fell just short as they lock-in for Game 2.

We layout the odds for Game 2 and tell you how to bet large favorites on home ice.

Bolts Dominated Game 1

Tampa Bay has taken a 1-0 lead over Montreal in the Stanley Cup Final after winning Game 1 in commanding fashion. Superstar forward Nikita Kucherov had two goals and an assist to lead the Lightning to a 5-1 victory. The Bolts outshot the Habs 27-19 and scored a power play goal to end the Canadiens’ streak of 32 straight penalty kills.

This was the performance the Lightning needed after losing Game 1 in each of their three prior Stanley Cup Final appearances. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy looked excellent with 18 saves, while forward Brayden Point stayed hot with three assists. The Bolts are now 7-1-2 at Amalie Arena this postseason.

Teams that win Game 1 in a Stanley Cup Final go on to win the series 75% of the time. It’s no surprise the Bolts are heavy series favorites after garnering that all-important first victory.

Can Habs Bounce Back?

Montreal will be looking for a better showing in Game 2 after getting dominated in Game 1. The Habs started strong and were only down a goal entering the third period. They had no answer for the Bolts’ high-powered offense in the final frame, however. High-danger chances were still only 8-7 in favor of Tampa Bay at even strength.

Montreal isn’t being given much of a chance in this series, but the reality is that they haven’t been given much of a chance since Game 1 against Toronto. There were positives from Game 1, including the play of Josh Anderson, who ramped up the physicality with eight hits. The bad news is just how well Tampa Bay neutralized the Nick Suzuki, Tyler Toffoli and Cole Caufield line.

After each of their last two losses against Vegas, Montreal bounced back with a victory. The Habs lost Game 1 to the Golden Knights 4-1 and rebounded with a 3-2 victory. They’ll look to repeat that process against Tampa Bay this time around.

Injury Report

There are some injuries to keep in mind when betting Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. Tampa Bay forward Alex Killorn suffered an undisclosed injury in Game 1 and only skated one shift in the third period. Lightning coach Jon Cooper said Tuesday he’s unsure if Killorn will be available for Game 2 and lists him as day-to-day.

Canadiens forward Joel Armia didn’t play in Game 1 after being placed in NHL COVID-19 protocol Sunday. Armia was cleared from protocol Monday and flew to Tampa on a private jet. The Montreal forward participated in the Habs’ optional skate Tuesday morning and could be re-inserted into the lineup for Game 2.

Canadiens vs Lightning Game 2 Best Bet

Montreal should be much better in Game 2, but Tampa Bay has depth that the Habs haven’t encountered yet. Not only were the Bolts superstars flying in Game 1, but the Yanni Gourde line and defenseman Erik Cernak also had big performances. It’s very hard to bet against the Tampa powerhouse in their own barn.

Instead of paying the steep price for the Tampa Bay moneyline, considering betting them at -122 on the 60-minute line. Tampa Bay has only gone to overtime three times this postseason and haven’t required more than 60 minutes to beat Montreal in a game since 2018.

Pick: Tampa Bay to Win in Regulation (-122)
