The Florida Panthers can push the Carolina Hurricanes to the brink of elimination from this year’s NHL playoffs when they return home for Game 3 of the NHL Eastern Conference Final on Monday night.

With goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky maintaining his sensational play in the Florida crease, the Panthers maintained their road warrior ways with a slender 2-1 overtime win in Game 2 on Friday night to seize a commanding 2-0 lead in the series. The Panthers now enjoy a 9-1 run overall while the Hurricanes look to rebound from their first back-to-back losses on home ice in nearly two months.

Start time is set for Monday night at 8:00pm ET at FLA Live Arena, with all the action televised on TNT and SportsNet.

Hurricanes vs Panthers Recent History

With Saturday night’s victory, the Panthers have now topped the Hurricanes in seven of nine overall meetings since April 2021 including three of four dates on home ice over that stretch. The trend towards low scoring when these clubs meet also continued in Game 2.

The UNDER has now paid out in five of their past six clashes, with an average of 4.5 total goals scored per game over that stretch. UNDER bettors have also cashed in each of Florida’s past seven postseason contests, and enjoys a 3-0 run over the Canes’ past three outings.

Carolina Hurricanes Betting Trends

The Hurricanes roared out of the gate on Saturday night, opening the scoring just 103 seconds in, and peppered Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky with 20 shots in the period. However, after having a goal called back that would have given them an early 2-0 lead, the Carolina attack steadily faded the rest of the way.

Defenceman Jalen Chatfield opened the scoring with his first goal in two months. However, the Hurricanes’ veteran lineup of shooters were otherwise snake bitten. Jordan Staal saw his scoring drought extend to four games despite racking up a game-high seven shots on goal, and Paul Stastny has now failed to record a point in seven straight games after being denied on all five of his shots on goal.

Frederik Andersen enjoyed a night off after backstopping Carolina to a 4-3 loss in four overtimes in Game 1. Antti Raanta made his first start in net since the first round and was steady while stopping 24 of 26 shots.

Florida Panthers Betting Trends

What is there to say about Sergei Bobrovsky that hasn’t already been said? The veteran goalie was spectacular once again in Game 2, and should now be on every NHL betting fan’s radar as a high-value wager to win this year’s Conn Smythe Trophy. Indeed, Bobrovsky now trails only Matthew Tkachuk with odds as short as +475 after entering the series pegged as a +1000 bet.

With Saturday’s performance, Bobrovsky improved to 9-1 over his past 10 starts and has turned aside a spectacular 150 of 155 total shots faced over the past three games including the final 35 shots he faced in Game 2.

Tkachuk once again delivered on Saturday night with his second overtime goal in as many games, and his third of the postseason. However, he has not scored on home ice since the first round.

Hurricanes vs Panthers Game 3 Prediction

The Hurricanes’ veteran character will be tested when they hit the ice in Florida on Monday. The club deserved a better fate in Game 2, and must find a way to solve Bobrovsky if they are to avoid an early exit.

As for the Panthers, it remains to be seen whether fatigue will be a concern after playing five games in seven days, with three of those contests going to overtime. Expect another seesaw battle, with the last team to score coming away with the win.

The Pick: Panthers (-115); UNDER 5.5 (-110)
