It’s a possible first-round playoff matchup between divisional rivals Carolina and Washington on Monday, March 28th. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm ET from Capital One Arena in Washington.

The first-place Hurricanes are listed as -136 road favorites over the fourth-place Capitals. This will be the fourth and final meeting between the two clubs this season.

Let’s take a look at the Hurricanes vs Capitals odds and figure out what the best NHL bet to lay down in this game is.

Hurricanes vs Capitals Odds

Although the Capitals have been the better of these two teams of late, they are the underdogs and, at odds of +112 on the moneyline, they have an implied win probability of 47.17% to beat the Hurricanes in this game.

Hurricanes Bad Betting Value in March vs Eastern Conference

Carolina’s been sitting atop the Metropolitan Division for some time now and have the fifth-best odds to win the Stanley Cup of any team in the league. Some would argue they have an even better chance to lift Lord Stanley’s mug than the oddsmakers are giving them.

Some question marks have been raised with their play against fellow Eastern Conference opponents this past month. They are just 3-4-2 in nine games against the East this month, and they were betting favorites in all but one of those contests. That poor recent form is mostly due to a lack of production.

They have just 19 goals in those nine outings, an average of 2.1 per game, more than a full goal below their season average of 3.31 goals per game. While they are coming off a seven-goal outing against the Blues, two of those markers were empty netters, so don’t let the touchdown in the scoreline fool you.

One area where the Hurricanes have no issue at all is on defense. Carolina allows just 2.37 goals against per game, the best mark in the league. Frederick Andersen ranks third in the Vezina Trophy odds in his first season with the Canes.

Capitals Recent Betting Trends

Washington has picked up their game in the month of March going 9-2-1. While Carolina has somewhat struggled to score goals, the Capitals have been firing on all cylinders, as they’ve gone over the betting total in 10 of their last 11 games.

After struggling by his standards in February, this month has brought a resurgence from Alexander Ovechkin as he’s buried 10 goals in 12 games. The Great 8 is staying close in the Rocket Richard Trophy odds, while chasing his ninth 50-goal season which would tie him for the most ever with Mike Bossy and Wayne Gretzky.

The Capitals are also on the opposite side of the spectrum from Carolina when looking at their record against other Eastern teams this month, going a perfect 6-0-0, with two of those wins coming against the Hurricanes.

Washington has had as much success against the Metro’s best team as anybody else in the league this year going a perfect 3-0-0, with two of those victories in regulation and last week’s win coming in a shootout.

Hurricanes vs Capitals Pick & Prediction

Every great team has their kryptonite and, for Carolina, the Capitals have been a tough nut to crack lately. Not only has Washington won the last five meetings between the two, but they’ve covered on the puck line in all those matchups as well.

The Hurricanes are 0-4 in their last four road games vs Eastern Conference Teams so they’ll be trying to break more than a few bad skids in the Monday NHL odds against the Capitals.

Trust Carolina to come out very motivated to beat the Caps as they won’t want to face them in the playoffs having lost all four regular season matchups. The Canes did fill the net in their last game and Washington’s scoring exploits in the month of March should continue as well.

Even though Carolina has the best goals against in the league, Ovechkin has goals in every game against the Canes this year and the Caps have tallied four times each time they’ve played each other. Bank on these two squads going over 6 goals and bet the over at Barstool Sportsbook.

Pick: Over 6 (-113)
