- There are four NHL games on the schedule for Friday, April 30th
- Robert Duff won his Sunday pick, leaving his NHL record at 27-19 (+5.15 units won)
- Both West Division first-place contenders, the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights, are in action
When it comes to the NHL odds on April 30th, there’s not been much to choose between the Colorado Avalanche and the Vegas Golden Knights this season. Vegas has grabbed a six-point lead over the second-place Avs atop the West Division, although Colorado holds a game in hand.
Among four NHL games on the slate for Friday, another step toward how the West will be won goes forward. The Avalanche are -265 home favorites over the San Jose Sharks. Since coming back from a COVID-19 enforced shutdown, the Avs are 0-3 straight up and 1-4 against the spread.
Vegas, -195 road favorites at the Arizona Coyotes, are the NHL’s hottest team. The Golden Knights have won 10 in a row. They’re 8-2 ATS over that stretch.

Avalanche in Tailspin
It’s been the roughest stretch of the season for Colorado. They’ve lost three in a row for the first time all season. Colorado is 1-3 since coming back from an eight-day COVID-19 forced sitdown.
Following Tuesday’s 5-2 road loss to the Golden Knights, Colorado has not only lost three games in a row, but the Avs have also surrendered 14 goals while doing so. They’ve allowed five goals twice over the past three games after fishing that many pucks out of the net just once over the previous 23 games.
Colorado ranks first in the NHL in shots-per-game (34.6) and shots-against-per-game (25.6). The last NHL team to lead the league in both was the 2009-10 Blackhawks, who won the Stanley Cup.
Perhaps the best thing that can happen to the Avs is exactly what’s on tap for them. Friday’s contest is the first of four in a row between Colorado and San Jose and Quint, Robert Shaw’s character in Jaws, has nothing on the Avalanche when it comes to hunting Sharks.
Colorado has won five of six from San Jose. The Avs are also 4-1 ATS in the last five facing San Jose.
In both of the Avs’ last two victories over the Sharks, they’ve pitched a shutout. In fact, three of the last five Colorado victories over San Jose were shutout performances. The Avs have blanked the Sharks four times since 2019.
Pick: Colorado Avalanche (-265), 1 unit
Knights Are Golden
With their winning streak now into double digits, can any team slow down the Golden Knights? The Coyotes certainly don’t look to be likely candidates to halt the Vegas streak.
Vegas is 7-1 SU over the past eight meetings with Arizona. The Golden Knights have won three in a row against the Coyotes. Two of the last three victories were 1-0 shutouts.
The Golden Knights have done something the Detroit Red Wings never have: Win 10 games in a row.
Detroit has played 6,556 games. Vegas has played 283.
That is insane.

Vegas is 5-2 SU all-time at Arizona. Three of those five victories were one-goal verdicts, as have been seven of 18 all-time meetings between the two clubs. So the spread isn’t a wise wager.
The Golden Knights are crushing opponents. The Golden Knights are outscoring clubs by a 45-17 count during this streak of success. Vegas has scored at least five goals in an NHL-high 18 games this season.
The Coyotes, on the other hand, are 1-4 through their past five games. They’ve scored two goals or less in six of the past nine games. Despite being a juicy line, I still like -195 in the April 30th NHL odds.
Pick: Vegas Golden Knights (-195), 1 unit
