Two Pacific Division squads with unblemished regulation records clash as the Edmonton Oilers visit the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 7 at Honda Center. Both teams hit the ice riding two-game winning streaks, making this an intriguing early-season showdown for bettors monitoring the current NHL odds. Puck drop is 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT).

The Oilers hit the road as expected favorites, fueled by the dynamic early-season playmaking of Connor McDavid. Edmonton will look to impose their offensive will against a surprisingly resilient Anaheim squad. The Ducks are embracing their role as home underdogs and will rely on young standouts like Leo Carlsson to keep their perfect start alive.

Below are my Oilers vs Ducks prediction and best bets, with the goalie stats, injuries and target prices behind each selection.

Oilers vs Ducks Prediction

  • Target pick: Ducks moneyline at +115 (BetMGM)

The current Polymarket buy price is 45¢, about +122 before fees.

My Oilers vs Ducks prediction favors Anaheim if I can get +130 or better. Edmonton completely controls the pace of play with an elite 56.0 percent Corsi For percentage and a 56.9 percent Fenwick For percentage. They average a robust 31.0 shots on goal per game. In stark contrast, Anaheim has struggled mightily to maintain possession, managing just a 39.5 percent Corsi For share.

Despite trailing in the overall possession figures, the Ducks have stayed perfect thanks to incredible team goaltending. Anaheim netminders boast a stellar .918 save percentage, allowing just 2.50 goals per game. Conversely, Edmonton’s goaltending has been their primary weakness. The Oilers possess a leaky .785 team save percentage and are surrendering 4.67 goals per contest.

This discrepancy between the pipes is the foundation of my prediction. For Edmonton to justify their position as road favorites, they need their overwhelming possession metrics to translate into better goals against suppression. I am backing Anaheim to weather the storm and pull off the upset using their superior crease stability.

Oilers vs Ducks Puck Line Pick

  • Target pick: Ducks +1.5 at -210 (BetMGM)

My Oilers vs Ducks puck line pick would be Anaheim +1.5 at -125 or better, with special teams central to the angle, but the current odds aren’t very high at -210. The Ducks are currently clicking at a ridiculous 50.0 percent on the power play and killing off 85.7 percent of their penalties. Their ability to execute on the man advantage provides a massive boost to their overall goal differential.

Meanwhile, the typically lethal power play for the visitors is operating at a pedestrian 25.0 percent. Their penalty kill has been a major liability, successfully defending just 57.1 percent of shorthanded situations. While Connor McDavid always impacts the Hart Trophy odds, his unit is currently missing key complementary pieces like Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to undisclosed and lower body injuries.

Edmonton is officially missing seven players, leaving Vasily Podkolzin and Max Jones among the leading wing options on the depth chart. Anaheim is missing Troy Terry to a hip issue, but their middle six depth remains intact. Grabbing the extra goal and a half with the home team is the logical play given Edmonton’s depleted forward group and porous penalty kill.

Oilers vs Ducks Over/Under Pick

  • Target pick: Over 7 at +115 (BetMGM)

Polymarket’s current 54¢ Over price is about -117 before fees, slightly above my target. I would wait for roughly 53.5¢ or less.

My Oilers vs Ducks total pick is Over 6.5, based on Edmonton’s high-scoring start. The Oilers are scoring 5.67 goals per game while allowing 4.67 goals against. Their high event style creates frequent scoring chances at both ends of the ice.

Anaheim averages 3.50 goals per game, but they will face an opponent giving up nearly five tallies a night. The combination of Edmonton’s offensive firepower and their abysmal .785 team save percentage creates the perfect environment for a high-scoring affair. I expect this game to clear the standard 6.5 goal threshold with relative ease.

Oilers vs Ducks Odds

The Oilers vs Ducks prediction-market odds favor Edmonton. These current buy prices differ from the target prices for my picks above.

MarketBuy PriceAmerican Equivalent
Edmonton to win56¢-127
Anaheim to win45¢+122
Over 6.554¢-117
Under 6.548¢+108

Prices from Polymarket as of October 6. Each winning contract pays $1; American equivalents are rounded and exclude fees.

Oilers vs Ducks Goalie Matchup

The Oilers vs Ducks starting goalies are not confirmed. Tristan Jarry and Lukas Dostal lead their teams’ depth charts, while Devon Levi has played two of Edmonton’s first three games. The figures below are individual goalie statistics.

StatisticTristan Jarry (EDM)Lukas Dostal (ANA)
Games Played12
Record (W-L-OTL)0-0-12-0-0
Save Percentage (SV%).739.918
Goals Against Average (GAA)5.852.42
Shutouts00

Lukas Dostal clearly holds the early statistical edge in this goaltending matchup. He brings a steady .918 save percentage and an unblemished 2-0-0 record into this contest. His reliability is the primary reason the home underdogs hold immense betting value.

Conversely, Tristan Jarry brings a struggling .739 save percentage and a bloated 5.85 goals against average to the ice. This undeniable disadvantage between the pipes lends serious appeal to backing the home team on the moneyline. Jarry’s inflated metrics also make the Over a highly attractive target for the game total.

Oilers vs Ducks Player Props to Watch

Verified Oilers vs Ducks player-prop quotes were unavailable from the current sources as of October 6. These are players I am watching, not additional picks with posted prices.

Once the oddsmakers finalize their projections, I will look to target Evan Bouchard for shots on goal. Edmonton’s top defensive pairing is heavily relied upon to generate offense from the point, especially with so many forwards sidelined. Bouchard acts as the primary distributor on a power play unit that will see high volume if Anaheim gives Edmonton power-play opportunities.

For Anaheim, I am eyeing Cutter Gauthier’s point props. Given Edmonton’s defensive struggles and abysmal 57.1 percent penalty kill, top line forwards for the home team should see multiple high danger scoring opportunities. Check back closer to puck drop for a full analysis of the prop market once lines are available.
