- My Panthers vs Sabres prediction and best bets are below for Monday’s 1 pm ET puck drop
The Florida Panthers (2-1-2) visit the Buffalo Sabres (2-3-0) Monday afternoon at KeyBank Center. Both teams took 4-1 losses on October 10 and are looking to get back on track. Florida has leaned on its defensive structure early on, while Buffalo has generated plenty of offense but can’t keep the puck out of its own net.
Matthew Tkachuk has carried the load for the Panthers with three goals and four points. Tage Thompson leads Buffalo with three goals, five points and 29 shots on net through five games.
Puck drop is at 1 pm ET. Here are my Panthers vs Sabres prediction and best bets, plus the latest NHL odds.
Panthers vs Sabres Prediction
- Panthers to win (52¢ on Kalshi)
My Panthers vs Sabres prediction is on Florida. The Panthers have allowed just 12 goals in five games and are controlling possession, registering 135 shots for while surrendering 116 against. Their 5-on-5 structure has been the backbone of the team, even while the power play has been ice cold (1-for-28).
Buffalo has yielded 19 goals through five games, and the defensive breakdowns have been consistent. The Sabres generate enough offense (132 shots for) to stay in games, but they’re giving too much back the other way even if they’re allowing a league-low 106 shots on goal against. At 52 cents, the Panthers are priced as a near coin flip, and I think their defensive advantage makes them the right side.
Panthers vs Sabres Best Bets
- Over 6.5 goals (45¢ on Kalshi)
My Panthers vs Sabres best bet on the total targets the over. Florida has converted just one of 28 power-play opportunities this season. A rebound from that slow start would add goals to the total, especially against Buffalo’s struggling penalty kill.
Buffalo’s penalty kill has been a problem too, killing just 10 of 16 penalties, and their 62.5% penalty-killing rate ranks as the third-worst mark in the NHL. Sabres games are averaging six total goals this season, largely because the defense is giving up quality chances consistently. With Thompson firing 29 shots through five games and Tkachuk already at three goals, there should be enough offense from both sides to push this over 6.5.

Prices from Kalshi last checked Monday, October 12, at 6:30 AM EDT.
The Panthers vs Sabres odds on Kalshi price this as a near coin flip. Florida is 52 cents to win outright and Buffalo is 50 cents. That’s about as tight as it gets, which is interesting given how different these two teams look defensively. The puck line is available at 30 cents for Florida to win by two or more.
Panthers vs Sabres Team Stats
Stats through five games for each team.
The Panthers vs Sabres stats highlight the defensive gap. Florida has allowed just 12 goals in five games while Buffalo has given up 19. The Sabres actually allow fewer raw shots (106 vs 116), but they’re converting those shots into goals against at a much higher rate.
Florida’s 1-for-28 power play has room to improve with Tkachuk and Sam Reinhart. I’m betting that this matchup helps produce that rebound, supporting my over play Monday afternoon.
