This evening brings a four-game NHL board, with three matchups making my betting card. The New York Rangers and Washington Capitals meet in a game where the defensive and goaltending numbers point toward a modest total. The Winnipeg Jets own the stronger defensive profile against the Anaheim Ducks, while the Seattle Kraken’s scoring rate contrasts sharply with the Detroit Red Wings early finishing results.
The statistics below come from the 2026-27 regular-season sample. The Rangers have played five games, the Capitals three, the Jets four, the Ducks three, the Kraken four, and the Red Wings three. That is enough to identify current form, but not enough to treat every rate as a settled full-season expectation.
These are my three selections for Friday. The Polymarket quotes are shown in both cents and approximate pre-fee American odds, so the table makes the break-even point clear.
NHL Picks Today
A 52¢ contract implies a 52% break-even probability before fees, equivalent to approximately -108 American odds. A 44¢ contract implies a 44% break-even probability, or approximately +127 before fees. Actual returns can vary with platform fees and execution price. Prices from Polymarket as of Oct. 8. American equivalents exclude fees.
NHL Pick #1: Rangers vs Capitals Under 5.5
- My pick: Under 5.5 at 52¢ (-108 equivalent) on Polymarket.
For my Rangers vs Capitals prediction, the Under 5.5 is supported by the early defensive and goaltending results. New York has allowed an average of 1.40 goals per game through five contests and owns a .932 team save percentage. Washington has allowed 2.33 goals per game through three contests, with a .914 team save percentage.
Those numbers show that this is a matchup between two teams that have had limited scoring against them in the available sample. The Under in this game wins with five or fewer combined goals, including overtime and shootouts. These early defensive results support a lower-scoring projection, though they are not a formula for predicting the final total. Washington’s 3.67 goals per game also gives the Capitals enough offense to test New York.
The Polymarket quote is 52¢ for Under 5.5, or approximately -108 before fees. At that price, the position needs to win more than 52% of the time to overcome the quoted break-even point. The projected 3-2 score keeps the game below the total.
NHL Pick #2: Winnipeg Jets Moneyline vs Ducks
- My pick: Jets to win at 52¢ (-108 equivalent) on Polymarket.
For my Ducks vs Jets prediction, Winnipeg’s defensive edge is the primary reason to take the home team. The Jets have played four games and are averaging 2.50 goals against per game with a .924 team save percentage. Anaheim has played three games and is allowing 3.33 goals per game with a .875 team save percentage.
The offensive numbers are closer than the defensive profiles. Winnipeg averages 3.00 goals per game, while Anaheim also averages 3.00. The difference is the goals-against and save-percentage gap, which gives the Jets a stronger statistical foundation if scoring remains near these early-season averages.
Winnipeg is quoted at 52¢ on Polymarket, equivalent to approximately -108 before fees. That requires a 52% break-even probability. My 3-1 projection favors the Jets without requiring a major offensive outburst.
NHL Pick #3: Seattle Kraken Moneyline at Detroit
- My pick: Kraken to win at 44¢ (+127 equivalent) on Polymarket.
For my Kraken vs Red Wings prediction, Seattle’s scoring rate is the central betting angle. The Kraken have played four games and average 3.75 goals per game. Detroit has played three games and averages 2.33 goals per game, with a 7.4% team shooting percentage.
My case for Seattle depends primarily on that scoring difference. Detroit’s low shooting percentage could improve as the season develops, but the Kraken have produced more offense in their opening four games. I prefer the underdog price to paying for a Detroit turnaround in this matchup.
Seattle is priced at 44¢ on Polymarket, approximately +127 before fees. The implied break-even point is 44%, which is lower than the 52% threshold attached to the other two selections. The projected score is Seattle 3, Detroit 2.
