The Hurricanes have won just two of four road games during the postseason, and are just 4-6 SU in their past 10 overall away dates.

Hurricanes vs Devils Recent History

With Sunday’s victory, the Devils extended their current home win streak against Carolina to two games and are 7-2 SU in their past nine head-to-head clashes at Prudential Center.

However, the Hurricanes have largely dominated when facing the Devils, winning seven of 10 overall, and have avoided consecutive playoff defeats in New Jersey in eight visits since 2009.

Game 3 also extended a trend towards high scoring in head-to-head action. These teams have combined to score an average total of 8.33 goals per game so far in the series, fueling a 5-1 run for the OVER in their past six postseason matchups.

Carolina Hurricanes Betting Outlook

The Hurricanes experienced a shocking reverse of fortune in Sunday’s Game 3 loss. After dominating so completely while outscoring the Devils by a wide 11-2 margin in the first two games of the series, the Hurricanes fell flat in every department as the scene shifted to New Jersey.

So impressive while backstopping the Canes to victory in Games 1 and 2, Frederik Andersen lasted just over one period before getting the hook after surrendering four goals on just 12 shots.

That opened the door for Pyotr Kochetkov to make his first appearance of the playoffs, and he didn’t fare much better, surrendering four more goals on 22 shots. With Antti Raanta sidelined by an illness, goaltending has suddenly become a concern in Carolina, adding to the pressure on this veteran squad to rediscover the stingy defensive form that worked so well for them in Games 1 and 2.

However, the offense continued to click, scoring four times on their final 24 shots over the final 37 minutes. Both Seth Jarvis and Jordan Martinook contributed a goal and an assist. Jarvis now enjoys a four-game point streak and Martinook has tallied two points in each game of the series to date.

New Jersey Devils Betting Outlook

The Devils leveraged a fast start in their successful bid to outlast the Hurricanes in Sunday’s win. After struggling to solve the Hurricanes defense on the road, the Devils seized a 3-0 lead in the first 13 minutes, and remained resilient in the face of a subsequent Hurricanes rally.

Goaltending remains a worry for this club, however. While Vitek Vanecek was perfect while burdened with little work early on, he wilted under heavy attack and has now allowed 13 total goals in his three starts in these playoffs.

Up front, the Hughes brothers stole the show in Game 3. Jack Hughes extended his current points streak to six games with two goals and two assists, while rearguard Luke Hughes chipped in a pair of helpers in his NHL playoff debut.

Timo Meier finally recorded his first point of the playoffs with the first goal of the game, and Dawson Mercer ended a three-game drought with three assists.

Hurricanes vs Devils Game 4 Prediction

The Devils finally rediscovered their offensive touch, but will likely have to keep scoring in bunches to counter what has been dismal goaltending.

Are the veteran Hurricanes wearing down or just having an off night? Until they prove otherwise, they offer value as underdogs against a Devils squad that has struggled to find a consistent groove.

The Pick: Hurricanes (+125); OVER 5.5 (-115)
