This is as lopsided a matchup as you get in the NHL as the Calgary Flames welcome the Detroit Red Wings to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday, March 12th with puck drop set to go at 7pm ET.

The Pacific Division-leading Flames are huge -360 home favorites against a Red Wings side that is basically playing out the last quarter of the season, although they are trending in the right direction after a couple of disastrous seasons.

Let’s look into the Red Wings vs Flames odds and find the best pick and NHL bet for Saturday’s game.

Flames Best NHL Moneyline Bet Since February

Since February, Calgary has really taken off.

In the last week, the Flames defeated the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion, Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1 and the Stanley Cup odds on favorite this season, the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in overtime.

Calgary has simply been setting the league on fire in the last month.

Best NHL Records Since February 1st

Team Record Points Points Percentage
1. Calgary Flames 14-2-1 29 .853
2. Boston Bruins 10-4-2 22 .688
3. Carolina Hurricanes 9-3-3 21 .700
4. Colorado Avalanche 9-5-2 20 .625

*As of Friday, March 11th at 6pm ET

They’ve been scoring in bunches, led by pending unrestricted free agent Johnny Gaudreau who is coming off a hat-trick against Tampa and now sits fourth in NHL scoring with 77 points.

Johnny Hockey has six goals and 13 points in his last seven games playing on arguably the best line in hockey right now and is making a move up the board in the Hart Trophy odds.

The team has only scored less than three goals twice in their last 17 games and if the offense somehow goes dry, they still usually have a good chance to win with league shutout leader Jacob Markstrom in net.

Although Igor Shesterkin is the runaway favorite in the Vezina Trophy odds, Markstrom is one of the top contenders with odds of +725.

Red Wings vs Flames Recent Trends

Not only has Calgary accumulated 22 more points than the Red Wings through this point of the season, but the Flames have also dominated the head-to-head matchup between these two teams over the past few years.

The Flames have won eight of the last nine meetings between these sides and are 5-0 against the Red Wings in their last 5 games against them at the Saddledome. The Red Wings can’t seem to keep the puck out of their net of late, giving up a whopping 21 goals in their last three games, all losses.

Earlier in the season, there was some belief that the Red Wings could have all three nominees for the Calder Trophy, but while Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond still sit atop the board in the Calder Trophy odds, Alex Nedeljokovic has completely fallen out of the race. His 3.23 GAA is 3rd-worst amongst goalies who have played in at least 30 games this year.

The Flames shutout the Red Wings 3-0 in their only matchup this year, but based on the Red Wings current defensive struggles and the Flames’ high-powered offense, there should be more goals to see in this one.

Red Wings vs Flames Prediction & Pick

Not to pile on, but the Flames have about as healthy a squad as you can hope for in mid-March, while the Red Wings will be without a couple key players on the attack.

Tyler Bertuzzi can’t make the trip due to COVID-19 protocol, and while they just got Jakub Vrana back, Robby Fabbri went down with a knee injury against Minnesota and will miss the rest of the season.

The Red Wings could be inspired by defenseman Marc Staal taking part in his 1,000th career game on Saturday, but that momentum likely won’t carry them to victory in a matchup that’s about as lopsided as you can get in the NHL these days.

A couple other notes to point out: of the Red Wings’ last seven losses, all but one have been by two goals or more and Calgary has taken the last five games between these two by a margin of at least two goals as well.

Too many factors point to a big Calgary win here, so take the Flames on the puck line in the Saturday NHL odds at -134 at Barstool Sportsbook.

Pick: Calgary Flames Puck Line -1.5 (-134)
