The Ottawa Senators visit the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight, for a 7 p.m. ET Atlantic Division matchup at Scotiabank Arena. Ottawa is playing its season opener, while Toronto is entering its third game after splitting its first two contests.
I am approaching this game through the price rather than assuming that Toronto’s home-ice advantage is enough to justify favourite status. Ottawa has won the last three meetings between these clubs, although that trend is only one part of the handicap and does not remove the uncertainty of an opener.
Toronto’s early results offer a more practical reason to look away from the favourite. The Maple Leafs have scored four goals in two games, while their power play has converted once in seven opportunities. Their penalty kill has been perfect so far, so Ottawa will need to create enough at even strength to avoid relying on special teams alone.
Below, you’ll find my Senators vs Maple Leafs prediction, plus the latest odds and my best bet for the Oct. 3rd showdown.
Senators vs Maple Leafs Prediction & Best Bet
- Ottawa Senators moneyline (+105 at bet365)
I am taking Ottawa on the moneyline at +105. The Senators have won three straight against Toronto, and the previous three meetings produced a 13-5 aggregate scoring edge for Ottawa. They also outshot Toronto 122-57 across those games. That shot margin indicates greater volume in the matchup, but it is not proof of possession dominance, so I am treating it as supporting evidence rather than a standalone argument.
The price is the key for me. Toronto is favoured despite a slow offensive start, and the market asks bettors to pay a premium for the home side. Ottawa’s recent head-to-head success gives me enough confidence to accept the volatility of a season opener, particularly when the underdog is available above even money. I would keep the stake modest because Ottawa’s recent road record as an underdog has also been poor.
My expectation is a competitive game in which Ottawa’s best route is sustained shot volume and Toronto’s best route is finishing from its top forwards. Toronto has allowed just four goals in two games, so the Senators cannot assume last season’s results will carry over.
Senators vs Maple Leafs 2025-26 Stats
Last season’s numbers help explain the current NHL Odds. The Senators averaged more goals and shots than Toronto in 2025-26, while the Maple Leafs allowed 3.6 goals and 32.4 shots per game. Ottawa’s 24% power play was also stronger over the full season, although its 75.8% penalty kill was below Toronto’s 81.2% mark.
Toronto’s early results also put its Stanley Cup Odds in perspective, but two games should be separated from those longer-term figures. The Maple Leafs are averaging 2 goals and 27 shots per game so far, allowing 2 goals and 25.5 shots. Their power play is at 14.3%, but their penalty kill is 100%. Those numbers are useful context, not a definitive change in team quality after only two games.
I therefore see the matchup as closer than the moneyline suggests. Ottawa’s recent series edge and stronger 2025-26 offensive profile support the upset case, while Toronto’s home ice and early defensive results explain why the market still makes it favourite. At +105, I am willing to back the Senators rather than lay the price with Toronto.
Senators vs Maple Leafs Odds
Odds from bet365 as of October 2, 2026. New users can claim the bet365 bonus code to use on tonight’s game.
Looking at the Senators vs Maple Leafs odds, the raw implied probabilities are 48.78% for Ottawa and 55.56% for Toronto. Normalising those two prices to remove the vig gives Ottawa approximately 46.75% and Toronto approximately 53.25%.
The puck line should be read with both the handicap and the price: Ottawa is receiving 1.5 goals at -225, while Toronto must win by at least two goals to cover -1.5 at +185. The total is set at 6.5, with the over at +105 and the under at -125. Canadian readers can also compare the matchup at BET99 before placing a bet.
