  • San Jose is 2-0 to start the season while Dallas is still winless through two games
  • The Sharks are averaging 4.5 goals per game, but both teams have penalty kill issues early on
  • My Sharks vs Stars prediction and over/under pick are below for Monday night’s Western Conference matchup

The San Jose Sharks (2-0-0) visit the Dallas Stars (0-2-0) Monday night at American Airlines Center. San Jose has come out firing to start the season, while Dallas is still looking for its first win. The Stars are heavy home favorites despite the early struggles.

Macklin Celebrini’s scoring has been key to San Jose’s hot start and is already generating early Hart Trophy odds buzz. Dallas counters with a deep, veteran-heavy forward group headlined by Jason Robertson, Mikko Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston.

Puck drop is at 8 pm ET from Dallas. Here are my Sharks vs Stars prediction and best bet for Monday.

Sharks vs Stars Prediction

  • Over 6.5 Goals (-102 at BetMGM)

My Sharks vs Stars prediction is on the over. San Jose is scoring 4.5 goals per game through two contests and running a 33.3% power play. Those numbers will come down, but the early offensive volume is real, and Dallas’ penalty kill is sitting at 71.4%.

The Stars have scored just one goal through two games, which feels unsustainable given their roster talent. Dallas controls 52.5% of the shot share at even strength and is generating 27.5 shots per game. The finishing hasn’t been there, but the chances are. Against a San Jose defense that’s allowing 30.5 shots per game, expect the Stars’ offense to show more life at home.

Both goalies are beatable. At -102, this Sharks vs Stars over is essentially even money on a game featuring two leaky penalty kills and a Sharks offense that’s been lighting the lamp at will.

The Sharks vs Stars odds have Dallas as a -200 home favorite despite the 0-2-0 start. San Jose is +165 on the moneyline. The total sits at 6.5 with the over at -102 and the under juiced to -118.

The over is drawing 89.91% of the betting handle, and 67.20% of the puck line money is on San Jose at +1.5. The market expects goals and a competitive game, which lines up with how I’m betting the Sharks vs Stars total tonight.

Stats through two games for each team.

These Sharks vs Stars stats are two-game samples, so none of this is predictive on its own. But the trends are worth noting. San Jose is converting at a 33.3% clip on the power play, which won’t last but shows they’re generating quality chances with the man advantage. Dallas hasn’t scored a power-play goal yet despite controlling the shot share at even strength.

I expect the Stars to improve on their 0.50 goals per game, although two games tell us very little. This is a roster with Robertson, Rantanen and Johnston. The offense isn’t broken, it just hasn’t clicked yet. That’s part of the Sharks vs Stars over case: when Dallas’ finishing catches up to their shot generation, this team will start putting pucks in the net.

Sharks vs Stars Goalies and Injuries

Jake Oettinger is the projected starter for Dallas. Yaroslav Askarov is the projected starter for San Jose. Neither has been confirmed.

Dallas: Matt Duchene (lower body, out)

San Jose: Alex Barre-Boulet (undisclosed, out), Adam Gaudette (upper body, out)

Puck drop for the Sharks vs Stars game is at 8 pm ET from American Airlines Center in Dallas.
