  • Dallas visits Colorado for Wednesday’s second game of a home-and-home set
  • The moneyline and game total both present angles worth targeting in this Central Division rematch
  • Read below for my Stars vs Avalanche prediction, betting line and NHL picks for October 14

The Dallas Stars (2-3-1) visit the Colorado Avalanche (4-2-0) Wednesday night at Ball Arena in the second half of a home-and-home set. Colorado won 3-2 in Dallas on Tuesday behind two goals from Martin Necas and a strong outing from Mackenzie Blackwood. Both teams travelled from Dallas to Denver, so neither has a rest advantage.

Nathan MacKinnon has five goals and seven assists through six games with 25 shots on goal. He added two assists in Tuesday’s win. Dallas has scored just 13 goals in six games and will need to find another gear offensively to avoid being swept in this two-game set.

Puck drop is at 8:30 pm ET. Here are my Stars vs Avalanche prediction, betting line and NHL picks.

Kalshi
Colorado to win
56%

My Stars vs Avalanche prediction is on Colorado at home. The Avalanche have scored 29 goals and generated 187 shots on goal through six games (31.2 per game). They just beat this Dallas team and now host them at Ball Arena, where the altitude can be a factor over 60 minutes.

Dallas has managed just 13 goals in six games, and their power play is converting at 14.3% (2-for-14). The Stars play a structured defensive game, but their offense hasn’t been able to keep up with high-scoring opponents. Colorado’s power play is at 23.8% (5-for-21), giving them an additional edge on special teams.

At 56¢ on Kalshi (Dallas 44¢), the Avalanche are priced as home favorites with momentum from Tuesday’s win. Both teams are on zero days of rest, but Colorado has the offensive depth to separate. MacKinnon, Necas and Artturi Lehkonen (who also scored Tuesday) give the Avs multiple threats up front. Bettors in the Lone Star State can compare options in our guide to Texas prediction markets.

The Stars vs Avalanche betting line has Colorado as a -139 moneyline favorite. Dallas is +118 as the road underdog. The total is set at 6.0 with both sides at -110. At exactly six goals, the total pushes.

Stars vs Avalanche Total Pick

  • Under 6.0 Goals (-110 at BetMGM)

My Stars vs Avalanche total pick is the under. Tuesday’s meeting finished 3-2, and Dallas has allowed just 10 goals in six games (excluding shootout-deciding tallies). The Stars’ penalty kill is at 85.0% (17-for-20), and they limit opponents to 22.5 shots per game (135 shots against in six games).

Colorado’s offense has been potent (29 goals in six games), but their penalty kill has been shakier at 80.0% (12-for-15). Dallas doesn’t have the power play to exploit that, though, at just 14.3%. With both teams on the second night of a back-to-back, I expect a tighter game than Colorado’s overall scoring average would suggest. The under at -110 is the secondary play behind the moneyline.

Goals exclude shootout-deciding tallies.

The Stars vs Avalanche stats show two teams built in completely different ways. Colorado generates 31.2 shots per game and scores at a high rate. Dallas generates 25.0 shots per game but allows just 22.5, winning by suppression rather than volume. The power play gap (23.8% vs 14.3%) favors Colorado, but Dallas’ penalty kill at 85.0% has been strong enough to limit the damage.

MacKinnon’s 12 points through six games strengthen Colorado’s position in the early Stanley Cup odds conversation. His production is a driving force for the Avalanche. Dallas’ identity is clear: they’ll try to win 2-1 or 3-2. Whether that holds up against Colorado’s attack at altitude is the central question tonight.

Puck drop is at 8:30 pm ET from Ball Arena in Denver.
