  • Florida leads the NHL with a 24-7-5 record and a league-best 19-3-0 home record

There’s a couple of things that bettors should expect when the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars clash on the ice in NHL action.

First of all, anticipate a close game. The last three Panthers-Stars games were all one-goal decisions. Secondly, you might want to tell the babysitter not to be expecting you home early. That’s because each of those three one-goal outcomes were determined either in overtime or via a shootout.

The Stars are 1-4 straight up over the club’s past five visits to Florida. Oddsmakers expect that trend to continue. The Panthers are set as -185 home favorites. Dallas is 4-10-1 straight up on the road this season.

Veteran Dallas forward Joe Pavelski went off for two goals and three assists when the Stars beat the Seattle Kraken 5-2 on Wednesday.

Pavelski is the first NHL player 37 or older to score at least five points in a game since Teemu Selanne had three goals and two assists for the Anaheim Ducks against the Colorado Avalanche on March 28, 2011. He’s riding a seven-game point streak and has 16 points over the past 11 games.

Forward Jason Robertson extended his point streak to eight games. Both Pavelski and Panthers left-winger Jonathan Huberdeau have counted nine points over the past five games. Pavelski and Florida’s Aleksandr Barkov have accounted for four goals apiece in their past five games.

Stars vs Panthers Injury Report

Dallas goalie Braden Holtby, who beat the Panthers 6-5 on Jan. 6, and forwards Alexander Radulov and Denis Gurianov are all in COVID-19 protocol and will miss the game. Forward Tanner Kero (concussion) has missed the past five games.

The Panthers are without forwards Noel Acciari (upper-body injury), Mason Marchment (COVID-19), Patric Hornqvist (COVID-19), goalies Spencer Knight (COVID-19) and Jonas Johansson (COVID-19) and defenseman Markus Nuutivara (undisclosed).

Oettinger Taking Over Dallas Net

With Holtby out, Jake Oettinger will get the call in the Dallas net. He’s won his past three decisions but is 0-1 on the road this season.

Anton Khudonin, the 2020 Stanley Cup hero for Dallas, was recalled from the AHL Texas Stars to back up Oettinger.
