- Vegas stunned Colorado with two wins at Ball Arena to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Final
- Teams that lose the first two home games in the series right before the Stanley Cup Final are 1-20 all time
- See the updated Golden Knights vs Avalanche series odds and Game 3 odds below
Colorado had home ice for a reason. The Avalanche were the Presidents’ Trophy winners, 8-1 through the first two rounds, and opened this series as -280 favorites. None of that mattered. Vegas stole both games at Ball Arena, and FanDuel has already flipped the series odds.
The Golden Knights are now -240 to win the Western Conference Final after opening as +225 underdogs before Game 1. Colorado has gone from a 73.7% implied probability to advance to just 33.9% in the span of two games.
Updated Golden Knights vs Avalanche Series Odds
That’s a massive swing. Colorado went from laying -280 to catching +195 in two games. The implied probability has completely inverted, with Vegas now holding a 70.6% chance to advance per the FanDuel odds.

Golden Knights vs Avalanche Games 1 & 2 Recap
Carter Hart has been the difference. He stopped 36 shots in Game 1 and 29 in Game 2, shutting down the highest-scoring offense in the playoffs. Colorado managed just three goals across both games, their lowest two-game output of the entire postseason.
Game 2 was the backbreaker. Colorado held a 1-0 lead after two periods and was 45-0-0 this season in that situation. Then Jack Eichel tied it early in the third, and Ivan Barbashev scored just 2:07 later to make it 2-1. Barbashev added the empty-netter for the 3-1 final. It was the fourth time this postseason that Vegas rallied in the third period to win.
Nathan MacKinnon has been held to just 1 assist and zero goals through two games. The Rocket Richard Trophy winner had 13 points through the first two rounds but has been completely bottled up by Vegas’s defensive structure.
Cale Makar Injury Update
Cale Makar has missed both games with an upper-body injury believed to be a separated shoulder, originally suffered on a Marcus Foligno hit in the Minnesota series. He was averaging nearly 25 minutes a night in these playoffs and his absence has been obvious. Colorado has struggled to exit their own zone cleanly, and the power play has gone cold without him quarterbacking the top unit.
Bednar has called him day-to-day. If Makar returns for Game 3 on Sunday, this is a completely different series. If he doesn’t, Colorado’s chances drop significantly from even the +195 the books are offering.
Avalanche Chances of Winning Series Down 0-2
History says probably not. Teams that fall behind 0-2 in a playoff series come back to win just 13.9% of the time. The stat gets even uglier for the Avs: teams that lose the first two home games in the series right before the Stanley Cup Final are 1-20 all time.
Vegas has also won six consecutive playoff games against Colorado dating back to the 2021 second round, when the Knights came back from 2-0 down against this same Avs core to win in six. The script has flipped, but the franchise rivalry hasn’t changed.
That said, comebacks do happen. Dallas came back from 0-2 against these exact Golden Knights just two years ago and won in seven. Colorado erased a three-goal deficit against Minnesota in Game 5 this postseason. And if Makar returns, the Avs are a fundamentally different team than the one Vegas has been beating.
Game 3 Avalanche vs Golden Knights Odds
Colorado is a -146 favorite for Game 3 on Sunday at 8:00 PM ET in Vegas, which tells you the books still respect the Avs’ talent even down 2-0. The Avalanche are 0-3 all-time in playoff games at T-Mobile Arena, dropping all three road games in the 2021 series.
The total is set at 6.5 with the under juiced to -140. For the full playoff picture, check out our NHL playoff standings.
