Formula 1 heads to Miami for the sixth event of the 2025 season this Sunday, April 20th, with the Miami Grand Prix. The green flag drops just after 4:00 pm ET, with live coverage via ABC.

Miami is a 3.363-mile track. This course has a mere 19 turns. Simply, aggression benefits the most ambitious driver especially in the opening sector and final corners. Both Lando Norris and Max Verstappen had a few issues early but made improvements in that final sector.

Let us dive into these Formula 1 picks and odds for the Miami race along with the start time.

Now at +135 odds, the implied probability for Max Verstappen races in at 42.55%, with Lance Norris right there at 40%. Finally, Oscar Piastri is at 22.73%. Does this technical course allow for more passing, crashes, or a potential run away for Verstappen?

Miami Grand Prix Picks

People should expect the potential for an isolated thunderstorm around the time of the race. It is Florida. However, expect temperatures to stay around 80 with high humidity. Tire wear and course knowledge tilts slightly to Max Verstappen and Red Bull. McLaren may have the slightly faster car but Verstappen possesses a unique knowledge of the course. History is light here and though Lando Norris won here last year, Verstappen seems to have an edge and of course he just scored his 43rd career pole.

This track helps Red Bull in their quest to keep the McLaren’s at arms length. Now, it boils down to pit strategy and those technical parts of the sectors. Even Verstappen noted a bobble or two in Q2 and especially Q3. The race for turn number one will be heated but watch for restarts. If one gets too aggressive, it can be the end of their race. Norris fended off Verstappen last year after the latter overcooked a turn. After lap 32, Norris pulled away for victory.

The Ferrari camp struggled again which makes even a Top 4 difficult for either driver. Charles Leclerc did finish third last year but starts 8th on Sunday. Can Andrea Kimi Antonelli control the Mercedes over 57 laps and get on the podium? It will not be easy but a Top 4 finish at -120 is attainable. Even the McLaren’s are a concern given what happened and nearly happened in 2024.

Sunday could see a podium double for McLaren. However, one wrong move dashes that.

The likelihood for mistakes and crashes is higher than usual. Expect Verstappen to stay above the fray late to take the checkered flag.

Last week showed how dangerous things can be in predicting double podiums and double top-six results.

With the numbers, maybe Mercedes has slightly more value but not at -300. However, fastest lap could hold even more intrigue.

With 57 laps and the hope for a little clean air, the chances one of the McLaren’s falls back and tries to steal a point may be higher than normal. If the race is closer, Max Verstappen has a chance here at +800. Again, tire management at Miami pales in comparison to timing of one’s aggressiveness.
