Everything is not as it originally appeared in the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League, as the likes of Real Madrid and PSG have struggled to the halfway point of the group stage. Matchday 4 in the Champions League kicks off with eight matches on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Los Blancos‘ clash with Inter in Italy this Wednesday is a key clash for both, who were heavily favored to advance from Group B and now sit third and fourth respectively after surprising starts from Monchengladbach and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool could punch their ticket to the knockout round with a win over Atalanta; the Reds went a perfect 3-0-0 to begin the group stage, and have not conceded a goal thus far in the competition.

Second and third place are still very much to play for in Group C, where our third featured match pits second-place Porto against winless Marseille in a must-win for the latter at home.

Pick 1: Liverpool vs Atalanta

It’s been a very steady start to the group stage for Liverpool (3-0-0), with clean sheet wins over Ajax (1-0), Midtjylland (2-0) and Atalanta (5-0) the first time through Group D.

The 5-0 win in Italy earlier this month bodes well for Liverpool at home this week; while Atalanta (1-1-1) is still very much in the mix to advance from the group. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side has won just once — a 2-1 win against last-place Crotone — in its last six matches (1-3-2).

The Reds are flying, to put it politely: Klopp’s heavily-rotated squad brushed Leicester aside 3-0 on the weekend, and has scored multiple goals in five of its last six outings.

Expect a rerun of November 3rd’s manhandling in Italy; back the hosts by multiple goals.

Pick: Liverpool -1 (+110)

Pick 2: Inter Milan vs Real Madrid

Neither Inter (0-2-1) nor Real Madrid (1-1-1) expected to be in this position when drawn alongside Germany’s 4th-place team and Ukraine’s champion.

Yet, here they stand on Matchday 4: Both needing quality results down the stretch in order to ensure they advance.

Inter’s winless situation is slightly more dire than Zidane and Real’s, but both need to be better.

Antonio Conte’s group has struggled for results both continentally and in Serie A of late, with a 4-2 win over Torino on Sunday snapping a four-game winless streak; Romelu Lukaku’s brace was a welcome sight for the Nerazzurri, who will need the hulking Belgian to remain in good form to escape from Group B.

Los Blancos have dropped points in back-to-back La Liga matches and allowed multiple goals in four of their last seven matches; look for Zidane’s group to try and batten down the hatches with a defensive focus at the San Siro, creating some value on the ‘Under’ play.

Pick: Under 2.5 (+143)

Pick 3: Marseille vs FC Porto

Though less star-studded than our other two featured matchups, Andre Villas-Boas’ Marseille (0-0-3) is fighting to stay alive in Group C against Porto (2-0-1).

Though nearly a decade removed from his successful stint at the helm of Porto, Villas-Boas is excellent tactically — and his side will be well-equipped to avoid another lop-sided defeat like the 3-0 suffered in Portugal on November 3.

Sergio Conceicao’s Porto is in good form, having brushed aside Marseille (3-0), Portimonense (2-1) and lower-league Fabril (2-0) in its last three outings; consistency has been an issue for the reigning Portuguese champions, however, and Marseille will be hungry.
