  • DC United are -182 home favorites over Toronto FC in an MLS match slated for Saturday, May 21
  • The visting Reds have lost their last five in a row
  • Analysis of the odds, picks, predictions and best bets for this MLS contest are included in the following story

A year ago, Toronto FC came to the US capitol to face DC United in the midst of a five-game MLS slide. DC United extended that TFC skid to six matches, and did so in impressive fashion, whipping them 7-1.

The outcome cost Toronto FC coach Chris Armas his job.

Well, Toronto is returning to the Beltway on Saturday for a Week 13 MLS matchup and yes, the Reds have suffered five successive defeats. Could it be deja vu all over again?

Oddsmakers like the chances of a repeat performance, which must be at least a little bit unnerving to TFC coach Bob Bradley. It’s DC United that is being established as -182 home favorites. Toronto FC is 3-2-1 against the spread as a road team this season.

Kickoff is set for 6:30pm ET at Audi Field. Sunny skies with partial cloud cover, 7 mph wind and a searing temperature of 95 degrees are in the forecast.

DC United is favored at -182 here and is showing a 3-0-4 slate on home turf this season. They have an implied win probability of 64.54% as opposed to only 18.52% for Toronto.

Over/Under And Spread

The total is set at 3.5 goals, which is interesting. On March 19 in Toronto, the Reds dropped a 2-1 decision to DC United. That might make an under play at odds of -190 worth a go.

The capital squad has found the back of the net in four of their past five games. Toronto FC has been blanked three games in a row. That being the case, perhaps take a look at a no play on a both teams to score wager at a betting line of +125.

When it comes to futures betting, the MLS betting trends show that neither club is much of a play in terms of the MLS Cup odds. Toronto FC is the 19th pick at +3300, while DCU comes in at 21st with a betting line of +5000.

TFC vs DCU Prediction

While that early-season triumph over the red and black might offer hope to the Reds faithful, history only serves to dash such optimism. TFC hasn’t won successive matches against DC United since 2016.

Jonathan Osorio netted the match winner for TFC in that 2-1 victory over DCU and there’s good news on that front. Canadian international midfielder Osorio is expected to return to action after missing the past two matches through a lower-body injury.

Toronto players Alejandro Pozuelo and Jacob Shaffelburg are both questionable for Saturday’s game. Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty is definitely out. He still hasn’t returned to training with the side.

DC United is the squad that’s undergone the coaching change this season. Hernan Losada gave way to interim coach Chris Ashton.

Carrying the deft touch against the Reds for DC United is strike Ola Kamara. He’s notched four goals and one assist in the past five games against TFC. Further enriching the DC attack is Greek designated player Taxiarchis Fountas. He’s tallied five goals and an assist in four starts.

Toronto FC vs DC United Pick

Though separated by five places in the standings, there’s only two points between 13th-placed Toronto FC and eighth-seeded DC United.

However, given TFC’s struggles at finding the back of the net in recent matches, it’s hard to pick them to come up with a big win in an away match. Toronto is 0-2-5 over the club’s past seven on the road.

Best Bet: DC United ML (-182).
