Feyenoord vs Roma Over/Under and Spread

With the benchmark set at 2.5 goals in the game, the bookies have listed the under at -160 and the over at a more tempting +130, reflective of how close and low-scoring first-leg ties often are.

Feyenoord vs Roma Preview

It’s been a season of dreams for Feyernoord who have in their sights a first Eredivisie title since 2016-17. With just six games remaining they hold an eight-point lead at the top of the table, ahead of Ajax and PSV, and so 11 points are needed from those games to guarantee the title.

They have been able to carry this good form into the Europa League where they jointly topped Group F with Midtjylland, in the process relegating Lazio to the Europa Conference League. In their round-of-16 tie with Shakhtar Donetsk, they cruised through to the quarters by winning 8-2 on aggregate.

Feyenoord in Good Shape

Arne Slot’s men warmed up for this huge tie in the best possible way with an emphatic 5-1 win over RKC Waalwijk on Sunday – goals from Paixao (2), Hartman, Giminez, and an own goal – and look as well-prepared as they can possibly be for this massive tie.

While they made it into the group stage of the Champions League in 2017-18, Feyenoord have spent most of the last decade playing Europa League soccer – albeit only once progressing beyond the group stages – but they did excel in last season’s Europa Conference League, where they were beaten finalists.

Roma Searching for First Europa League

Roma’s victory in last season’s Europa Conference League and a third-place finish in Serie A was meant to be the launch pad for a Serie A title challenge but with Napoli taking it to another level this season, the best Jose Mourinho’s men can hope for is a second-place finish. They are, however, in with a chance of claiming their first-ever Europa League crown to sit alongside their Europa Conference League trophy.

Were it not for Napoli’s phenomenal Serie A campaign, Mourinho’s men would be in the hunt for the title but it’s worth noting that they have now fallen five points behind their city rivals Lazio in the race for second place. At the weekend, they went to Turin and recorded a fine 1-0 win over Torino.

Europa League in the Sights of Mourinho

The Mourinho factor has to be considered here given how attuned the Portuguese legend is to European soccer and how successful he has been in Europe during his time at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham. While his style of soccer may not always be pleasing to the eye, there is no doubting its effectiveness, especially in knockout competitions.

In addition to the Europa Conference League Final, these two teams also played each other in the last 32 of the 2014-15 Europa League with Roma winning 3-2 on aggregate.

Feyenoord vs Roma Prediction

This will be close, as most first-leg European games tend to be, with both sides aiming to still be in the tie going into the second leg. Therefore, it’s unlikely to be end-to-end and gung-ho.

Mourinho is a master of these occasions and while the Rotterdam side are in great form, a low-scoring draw looks to be where the value lies.

Feyenoord vs Roma Picks: Feyenoord and Roma to draw (+225) / Under 2.5 goals (-160)
