At last, another European league is resuming play as the Turkish Super Lig kicks off Friday with Trabzonspor traveling to play Goztepe at 2:00 pm EST. Both of these sides have not played a competitive match since the middle of March so it will be very interesting to see how much rust these two sides have. With Istanbul level on points, and Galatasaray only three points behind first place, it will be imperative for Trabzonspor to get off to a flyer.
Despite behind slightly behind in eighth place, the last two times these sides played, Goztepe won away from home thanks to an early Cameron Jerome goal. It was a frustrating night for Trabzonspor as they outshot Goztepe 22-6 but failed to bag anything meaningful in the net.

Watch Out for Trabzonspor’s Alexander Sorloth
It is fair to say that since their match in December, Alexander Sorloth has continued his run of excellence and has proven himself to Trabzonspor. The Crystal Palace loanee has proved himself enough to cause Daniel Sturridge to mutually part ways with the club after not getting enough run-ins with the starting eleven.

Sorloth has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists this season, and will surely be the target man against Goztepe. Anthony Nwakaeme has also strutted his talent throughout the campaign scoring ten times and will be another attacker in maroon to watch for. Trabzonspor will most definitely threaten Goztepe offensively, as they have poured in 59 goals this season. However, their defense can be shaky at times as the team also has not held a clean sheet in their last six matches.
Goztepe vs Trabzonspor Statistics
8th (37 Points) | Standing in Super Lig | 1st (53 Points) |
1.2 | Goals per game | 2.3 |
10.5 | Shots per game | 14.2 |
48.1% | Average Possession % | 50.2% |
The Key for Goztepe is Defense
As proven in the reverse fixture, the key to defeat Trabzonspor is to hold them on defense. Goztepe did that in the last matchup and it is likely why they walked away with three points. Many times this season, Trabzonspor has let up a pair of goals, the question is if the pairing of Alpaslan Ozturk and Titi can hold Trabzonspor on the other end.

Contrarily, the Turkish pairing of Soner Aydogdu and Serdar Gurler will be who Goztepe turns to on offense. Overall, this match is very close to call and could be decided by a simple mistake caused by the rust of not playing competitively for so long.
Best Bet
The best bet for this match is to go with the ‘Over’ at 2 1/2, 3 (-101). The bet has one of the highest values available but is also responsible in terms of chances. Coming off a long break, this game will be an attacker’s paradise. The defense will most likely be sloppy, and it will not play out like last time.
Trabzonspor will probably win but expect goals to come from both sides as both sets of attackers are quite talented. This is a match where offensive hawks like Sorloth could score a few goals and they match could end up with a scoreline of 4-2, or even 5-2. With Champions League qualification and a league title in the balance, expect Trabzonspor to bring their A-game.
My Prediction: Over 2 1/2, 3 (-101)
