Despite No Wins, Miami Have Impressed
Although their record doesn’t say it, Inter Miami has actually played pretty decent football so far. They played a very good LAFC side on opening day and held them to just one goal while creating a bevy of opportunities themselves. Even though this side is compiled of many different players with MLS experience, there’s no doubt there were some nerves in their first match as a franchise.
Last weekend, they took an early lead against DC United when Rodolfo Pizzaro bagged a goal in the second minute. Inter held DC at bay until Roman Torres was sent off in the 54th minute for a handball. That’s when everything came crashing down. Miami gave up two goals within the next ten minutes, with the first one being yet another handball that led to a penalty.
Small mistakes like careless fouls and handballs definitely hurt them in Week 2, even though they played relatively well. Week one was probably their most impressive showing yet because we all know that LAFC is a goal-scoring machine, netting a ridiculous 85 goals in just 34 matches last season. The fact they kept them to just one goal, especially in LA, is impressive.
Galaxy Looking for Chicarito to Find Form
The highest-paid player in the MLS, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez has yet to score a goal through his first two appearances in the league while failing to even register a shot on target. LA was hoping that the former West Ham man could be the perfect replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front, but so far, he hasn’t proved much.
However, he also hasn’t been given very good service. The Galaxy midfield has done everything they can to get him involved as much as possible but their passes in the final third have been dreadful, completing just 22 percent of the 63 balls intended for Hernandez.
Unfortunately, he’s not Ibra. He needs his midfielders feeding balls to him and creating opportunities because Hernandez isn’t the type of player to muster up chances out of nothing like the Swede did during his time in LA.
The Galaxy’s dismal start has a lot to do with the inconsistencies in their midfield, which is something that Guillermo Schelotto must figure out very quickly. Third time’s a charm, so hopefully, Chicarito can get on the scoresheet this weekend in Miami and live up to the hype that’s closely surrounding him in LA.
Inter Miami vs LA Galaxy Stats
0-2 | Record | 1-1 |
1 | Goals Scored Through Two Matches | 2 |
12.5 (3rd in MLS) | Shots Per Match | 8.5 (15th in MLS) |
253 (24th in MLS) | Completed Passes Per Match | 297.5 (20th in MLS) |
Draw is Best Bet
Taking into account both of these sides’ form currently, I’m going with a draw this weekend. Miami is proving they can compete in this league and with the home crowd behind them, they’re going to put forward a solid performance. Chicarito will finally score a goal for the Galaxy, but Miami will equalize, with each team securing a point at the end of 90 minutes.
Pick: Draw +245
