Atlético Madrid (-138) vs. Sevilla (+465), Draw (+300)

Atletico Madrid (15-7-5, 52 points) take on Sevilla (17-6-4, 57 points) this Sunday, March 19th for the 28th fixture of La Liga.

This is a big game for both teams. Both are still in with a title shot, but as usual Real Madrid and Barcelona are the overwhelming favorites. Surprisingly though, it’s Sevilla with the better chance of breaking the duopoly this season. They’re currently in third place and just five points from the top (though Real Madrid have played one less game). Atletico are in fourth, ten points from the top.

Sevilla are reeling from a Champions League elimination to Leicester City. The perennial Europa League winners finally had a shot at the Champions League and lucked out after being paired with Leicester City in the Round of 16. But they made a mess of it.

They won the first leg 2-1, but Leicester City were afforded an away goal. In the second leg, nothing went their way and they lost 2-0, allowing Leicester to advance to the quarterfinals. However, they didn’t play too poorly and were extremely unlucky to lose in the way they did. Samir Nasri, who isn’t exactly known for his level-headedness, was baited by Jamie Vardy and lashed out, getting himself sent off. They had quite a few chances and even a penalty to take the game to extra time, but it just didn’t come together for them. With that out of the way, Sevilla can now set their eyes on the title.

Unless Atletico suffer a meltdown against Bayer Leverkusen, they’ll go through to the Champions League quarterfinal. Atletico had an entertaining 4-2 win in the first leg, and will take on Bayer at home for the second.

Atletico are notoriously difficult to beat at home, but this season they’ve been pretty mediocre. Sevilla have exceeded expectations throughout the season, and now that their Champions League campaign is over, the league is all they have. It’s hard to pick against Atletico when they’re playing out of Vicente Calderón, but at +465, Sevilla are definitely worth the chance.

Pick: Sevilla (+465)
