Marseille needs to kick start its Europa League Group E campaign but will have a tough task at in-form Lazio on Thursday.

However, after an impressive 3-1 domestic defeat of Inter Milan in Italy’s Serie A last Saturday, Lazio is ready to take a major step towards qualification for the knockout stage.

UEL Lazio vs Marseille Odds

Matchup Spread Moneyline Total

Odds as of October 20 at DraftKings

Following two draws in its opening two games, Marseille must begin adding fuel to its European venture.

Lazio, meanwhile, has recovered from a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Galatasaray in its opening game.

Home Win Against Lokomotiv Moscow

Since then it has claimed a 2-0 home win against Lokomotiv Moscow to sit in second place in the group with three points – one behind the leaders, Galatasary.

With Marseille in third place on two points, the oddsmakers at DraftKings price as a wide favorite for a home win at -125.

These odds seem a bit harsh on Marseille which is rated at +330.

The draw, meanwhile, is at +295 which could be tempting.

Spread-wise, a choice based on Lazio’s recent form is also attractive at +250 for the Italians to win by two goals (Spread -1.5).

This is backed up by the fact that Marseille has not kept a clean sheet in its last 12 away fixtures in this competition.

Lazio, however, has yet to keep a clean sheet in Serie so far.

Lazio’s coach Maurizio Sarri won this competition with Chelsea in 2019.

Indeed, both teams are known for having an attacking outlook having each scored 18 league goals already this season – Lazio in eight games and Marseille in nine.

But there is a lot at stake for the French team here and Marseille could well claim a point at 12:45 pm ET.

Lazio’s coach Maurizio Sarri won this competition with Chelsea in 2019.

Moreover, the memory of twin victories by Lazio against Marseille when these teams last met in the Europa League in 2018-19 is lurking in the background.

There was a 3-1 victory for Lazio in France followed by a 2-1 win in Rome in the Autumn of 2018.

Now Sarri’s team will be in a confident mood as it sits at the present time in fifth place in Serie A.

It emphatically defeated Italian champions Inter at home last weekend with goals from Ciro Immobile, Felipe Andersen and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Three Wins in Four for Lazio

That made it three wins in the last four competitive matches for Lazio after a stuttering start to the Serie A season.

Those four wins also included, significantly, a 3-2 win against Roma in the Italian capital’s ferocious derby. But, following that, there was a surprise 3-0 defeat at Bologna.

Meanwhile, both of Marseille’s Europa League fixtures so far have resulted in draws.

Firstly, it opened with a 1-1 all-square result away against Lokomotiv Moscow. Then, subsequently, there was a 0-0 draw with Galatasaray.

It is currently in the third spot in France’s Ligue 1.

However, until last weekend’s 4-1 hammering of Lorient – with Matteo Guendouzi among the scorers –  its form had been poor.

There had previously been a 3-2 home defeat by Lens followed by a 2-0 setback away against champions Lille.

Both these sides have been only average defensively in league games this season which suggests there could at least be goals in Rome.

Marseille will have to watch out for Ciro Immobile who has seven Serie A goals.

Lazio has conceded 13 times while Marseille’s tally of goals against is 11.

The French side will certainly have to watch out for Lazio’s dangerous striker Ciro Immobile who is once again in fine form with seven Serie A goals so far this season.

The leading scorers for Marseille, meanwhile, are Dimitri Payet and Cengiz Under who each have three goals.

Undoubtedly, Lazio will be buoyed by its excellent home form.

It is undefeated in its last 17 Serie A matches at the Stadio Olimpico – winning no fewer than 15 of them.

Four Straight Victories Against French Teams

Furthermore, it has won its last four Europa League matches against French teams at home.

Comparatively, Marseille’s overall recent record in Europe is poor. It has won only once in its last 16 matches in either the Europa League or the Champions League.

In conclusion, then, Marseille is a struggler in Europe lately while Lazio is in a buoyant mood and ready to take a major step towards qualification.

So a win by at least two goals for the Italians certainly looks feasible.

Pick: Lazio -1.5 (+250)
