In the first meeting of these teams they have priced Chelsea at +100 favorites to win.

Chelsea were Europa League winners for the second time last season following their success in 2013.

Impressive Away Form

Champions League winners in 2011-12, they are unbeaten in their last seven European away matches and have won 10 of their last 19 away fixtures in European competition.

They won five times away from home and drew twice on the way to last season’s Europa League final. With Lille’s recent home form in Europe poor, the price for a Chelsea win is attractive, too.

The Stamford Bridge club is undergoing a transitional season under new coach Frank Lampard and has been in fluctuating domestic form.

They are sixth in the Premier League following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat of Brighton and Hove Albion, which was their first home league win of the season.

Former Chelsea player Lampard – a member of the 2012 UCL winning team – has won praise for giving extended runs in the team to home-grown young players such as Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount.

The campaign opened with a crushing 4-0 defeat away at Manchester United. They have since won twice, drawn twice and lost twice.

Striker Abraham is the EPL’s second-leading goalscorer with seven strikes – one behind Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

Only One Win in France

Chelsea have played eight European fixtures in France but won only once in the UCL group stage at Paris Saint-Germain in 2004/05.

Their form in the lower-level Europa League was impressive last season as they won the competition without a single defeat.

However, after a year’s absence from the UCL, the setback against Valencia was their first at home in Europe for three years.

The northern France-based club lost star player Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal this summer. But they signed midfielders Renato Sanches, Yusuf Yazici and forwards Victor Osimhen – who have scored six league goals – and Timothy Weah.

Lille were runners-up in France last season to mighty Paris Saint-Germain.

They are making their first appearance in the UCL group stage since 2012/13 when they finished bottom of their group.

They have made the group stage six times in total.

Dismal Record at Home in Europe

Their European form has been dismal in recent times. In the 2016/17 Europa League, they lasted only tie – being eliminated by Gabala of Azerbaijan in the third qualifying round.

They have not won a European home game since August 2012 – a 2-0 defeat of Copenhagen in the UCL playoffs. Since then, they have drawn four times and lost five at home.

Pick: Draw +220
