The title race is immensely heating up in Ligue 1, with four sides still in the running. Lyon will realize just how important Sunday’s meeting is with PSG when they host the defending champions, kick-off 4pm ET.

For once, Paris isn’t running away with the title, which is a breath of fresh air in itself. Lille currently leads the way as they will be looking for a positive result against Nimes on the weekend as well.

Lyon will be feeling extremely hopeful heading into this vital clash though, having already defeated PSG earlier in the term at the Parc des Princes.

Lyon Looking For Massive Result

With just eight matches left, it’s crunch time. For Lyon, this is arguably one of the biggest games of their season. However, don’t be fooled. They definitely need points here, but clashes ahead with Lille and Monaco will also be extremely important.

Rudi Garcia’s men have been one of the most electrifying sides to watch in the French top flight this season. They score goals like nobody’s business and have one of the most well-rounded attacks in the league. Memphis Depay has already bagged 14 goals and provided nine assists, while the likes of Tinotenda Kadewere and Karl Toko Ekambi have both scored over nine goals apiece.

Lyon has also conceded just 26 goals in 29 appearances, proving to have one of the strongest backlines around. Their form coming into this fixture isn’t the greatest though, going just 2-2-1 in their last five.

Round 29 was an underwhelming performance for Les Gones, playing to a 1-1 draw with 13th-place Stade Reims. As one of the most clinical outfits in Ligue 1, they struggled to find the back of the net in this match. In fact, Lyon has only scored three goals in as many appearances heading into Sunday’s meeting.

Their strikers have gone slightly stagnant and they certainly won’t have it easy against a PSG defense who are very tough to break down. A positive showing before the international break will be crucial as Garcia’s squad eye their first title since the 2007-08 campaign.

PSG Coming in Confident

Despite a shock defeat last weekend to Nantes, the Parisians won’t have anything to hang their heads about as they prepare for Sunday’s clash. Mauricio Pochettino’s men buried Lille 3-0 in the Coupe de France Round of 16 on Wednesday, thanks to Kylian Mbappe’s brace.

After beating the top side in Ligue 1, PSG will have zero doubts that the title is there’s for the taking this term. But, this will not be an easy go. Lyon has beaten Paris more than any other team in France since they became Qatari-owned in 2011-12, coming out victorious against the European giants 11 times since then.

Just like their Matchday 30 counterparts, PSG haven’t been fantastic lately either. Despite their French Cup victory, they’re just 3-0-2 in five games, including a defeat to Monaco, who is breathing down their necks in fourth spot.

Just three days’ rest coming into this fixture could be tough for the visitors though. It could potentially take its toll on Paris. But, on a more positive note, they have won four of their last five on the road.

Mbappe leads the top flight with 18 goals to his name and will be looked upon to provide some brilliance in the final third. A return for Neymar hasn’t been ruled out yet either, which could be a huge boost to the squad. The last time PSG visited Groupama Stadium (2019-20), they took away the full three points in a 5-1 thrashing of Lyon.

Both outfits know just how key this clash is to their title aspirations. Previous meetings between PSG and Lyon have been relatively high-scoring, hitting over 2.5 goals in three of the last five.

I firmly believe Lyon has been pure class this term and they’ve only lost three times compared to seven defeats for Paris. The hosts are also on eight days of rest, while the Parisians are coming off a mid-week cup fixture.

I like Lyon here to put together a brilliant attacking performance on Sunday and pull out the three points on home soil. Expect it to be a goal-filled encounter as well.

Pick: Lyon +185,  Over 2.5 Goals (-186)
