Manchester United vs Newcastle United Prediction

This game will almost certainly be the Cristiano Ronaldo show, as the Portuguese superstar kicks off his second spell as a Manchester United player but, for Newcastle, that will be merely a sideshow as their slow start to the season means they have an urgent need for Premier League points.

The Toon thought they had finally earned their first three points of the season against Southampton just before the international break when Allan Saint-Maximin gave them a 91st-minute lead, but a late-late equalizer from the Saints’ James Ward-Prowsemeant they remain win-less. The pressure is well and truly on Newcastle manager Steve Bruce, who is already under fire from large sections of the Toon fan base.

United starts as massive odds-on favorites with good reason and, while I expect the Toon to be organized and competitive, for lots of reasons it is hard to see anything other than a Man Utd win. The obvious bet here is Ronaldo as anytime goalscorer (-225) because it seems inevitable, but the value is with him scoring the last goal of the game to round off an emotional homecoming.

Picks: Cristiano Ronaldo to be last goalscorer (+200)

Southampton vs West Ham United Prediction

West Ham’s blistering start to the campaign, suffered a blow last time out when they were held at the London Stadium by Crystal Palace in an entertaining 2-2 draw, but they will see the trip to St. Mary’s as an ideal opportunity to get back to winning ways. David Moyes’ Hammers have found goals easy to come by so far this season – scoring 10 in three; equaled only by Man City – and with their line being led brilliantly by the in-form Michail Antonio, they pose a threat to any defense in the league.

The Saints, meanwhile, are still looking for their first win of the campaign but did play well against Newcastle (as mentioned above) in that 2-2 draw just before the international break, when Ward-Prowse netted a 96th-minute penalty to earn his team a point. They need to make St. Mary’s a fortress in order to have a successful season and will be hoping that starts this weekend.

West Ham starts as a favorite but is still in plus-money and so, for me, that is where the value is. Antonio will again be a big threat and if the Saints struggle to contain him, he will cause them problems.

Pick: West Ham to win (+140) / Michail Antonio to score first goal (+400)

Brentford vs Brighton & Hove Albion Prediction

Premier League new boys Brentford are unbeaten so far and have looked at home in the Premier League. The Bees opened their campaign with an outstanding home win against Arsenal and followed it up with two equally impressive away draws – at Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. Thomas Frank’s team has used the momentum of its playoff final win at Wembley to excellent effect and they will believe they can record their second win of the season.

Brighton’s start to the season has also been a positive one with two wins from their three games so far; a good start after finishing 16th in 2020-21, just two places above the drop zone. Where the Seagulls specifically need to improve is away from home, especially in London where they have won just three of their 22 EPL away games in London. They head to west London without a win in their last nine games in the capital.

On that basis, the +190 on offer for the Brentford win looks tempting, with the Bees looking likely to be reliant on some good home form to retain their EPL status for 2022-23.

Pick: Brentford to win (+185)
