Leipzig is in awful form at the moment, losing three games in a row, including a 3-0 defeat to Mainz over the weekend. Dortmund also dropped points Saturday as Bayern beat them 4-2 to move into first place in the Bundesliga table.

Leipzig might be playing poorly as of late, but they’re the reigning champions of this competition. Die Roten Bullen beat Freiburg in penalties last season to take home the grand prize, despite being a man down for the last 33 minutes.

The club was actually runners up in 2019-20 and 2020-21 as well, therefore success in the DFB-Pokal is a common occurrence over the last few years. However, Marco Rose’s men have just one win in their last five games and that came way back on March 11th against Monchengladbach. There is no shortage of motivation for Rose though, who will be hoping to take down his former club and get Leipzig back on track in the process.
The visitors saw their brief spell in top spot disappear over the weekend in Der Klassiker as Bayern continued their dominance of Dortmund. Three goals in the first 23 minutes quickly put The Black and Yellows in an early hole and they were never able to recover.
As for the German Cup, Dortmund is the fourth-most successful side in the history of the tournament, winning five times and earning five second-place finishes as well. Rose’s squad took down VfL Bochum in the Round of 16, their first Bundesliga opposition through the first three rounds.
