With just two games remaining in the MLS regular season, both Seattle and the Los Angeles Galaxy enter their penultimate match of the season on Monday, November 1 with plenty to play for. The second-placed Sounders are currently level on points with first-place Sporting KC, and need the points to help in their quest to grab the No. 1 seed for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy are fighting for their playoff lives, sitting in the seventh and final qualification spot and just one point clear of eighth-place Real Salt Lake.

Sounders Sound Off
So much for building up a head of steam to roll into the playoffs. Seattle’s winless streak currently sits at four games after last week’s 3-0 loss against Los Angeles FC, and the team has three defeats in that spell, including two straight losses now.

The good news for Seattle is a win here would elevate it back to the top seed in the West, and ensure that it finishes no lower than second in the conference. On top of that, it’s been more than six years since Seattle took two points or fewer from a five-match span, occurring during a five-game losing streak between July and August 2015, so recent history suggests the Sounders might bounce back here.

Seattle Reinforcements Are Here
Besides the historical precedent, the injury-hit Sounders should also be welcoming some impact players back into the fold here. One of those will be US national team attacker Jordan Morris, who head coach Brian Schmetzer confirmed on Friday would feature in this game. Morris hasn’t played in over eight months, since tearing his ACL playing on loan in the English Championship.

On top of Morris, Seattle might also include Nicolas Lodeiro back in the starting lineup, while leading scorer Raul Ruidiaz could also feature. In addition, the team will welcome back Brazilian designated player Joao Paulo from suspension.
"He trained in most of training, he'll probably train in full tomorrow", was part of what Brian Schmetzer said on regards to Raúl Ruidíaz.

The Sounders will be hoping the additions get them firing on all cylinders, with the team having scored just three goals in its last four games, and not scoring more than one in any match. The last time Seattle was held to one goal or less in five straight matches was in 2017.
Balanced Rivalry
It’s been more than five years since the Galaxy grabbed a win away at Lumen Field, with Robbie Keane providing the match-winner back in July, 2016.
Monday’s match will be the 33rd regular-season contest between the sides, with Seattle currently holding an 11-10-11 edge. In 15 regular-season games in Seattle, LA is 4-6-5.

However, Seattle has won contests this season by a 5-1 aggregate score, and in the Galaxy, the Sounders will be facing one of the conference’s worst defenses, with LA having conceded 50 goals in 32 matches. It should be noted though that the Sounders have never beaten LA three times in one season.

Can Chicharito Provide Edge?
Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez missed LA’s 2-0 loss in Kansas City last Wednesday – the team’s first defeat in five games – and his absence has been noted in matches all season. In the games that Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer has played, the Galaxy have 1.63 points per game, versus the 1.15 in games he does not play.

Whether or not Chicharito can build on his 14 goals this season, Los Angeles will need all the help it can get. In six matches against the top three teams in the Western Conference this year, the Galaxy have earned just a single point.
Best bet: Seattle -1.5 (+220)
