After losing to France 3-0 to start the Paris Olympics, the United States bounced back with a convincing 4-1 win over New Zealand in their second game. I’m going all-in on this version of Team USA. After watching the Copa America debacle earlier this summer, the new coaching staff will be eager to make a statement in Paris. Losing 3-0 to host France wasn’t a good start to the tournament, but this team showed how good it can be against lesser foes with a 4-1 thumping of New Zealand.

Team USA got off to a red-hot start against New Zealand, scoring 3 times in the opening 30 minutes of the match. That’s something the senior team has lacked in recent years, so it was a good sign for the Americans. Look for them to try to replicate that success. Maybe they won’t score 3 goals in 30 minutes, but I expect them to have at least a 1-0 lead at halftime. To get even +100 odds on that via BetMGM is great value.

I think this team is capable of holding Guinea scoreless, but I’m not confident they can avoid a stupid mistake that allows a goal. As expected, Team USA is a heavy favorite, sporting -210 odds to win. But if you think the U23 Olympic team will falter against a lesser foe like the senior national team, you can get good odds. BetMGM currently has a tie after 90 minutes at +333 and an outright Guinea win at +475. The US really needs this game to advance, so we’ll see if they can handle the pressure of if Guinea pulls off a stunning upset.

These are longshot bets, so I won’t be placing a full unit on either of these picks. But there’s value in these props if you, like me, think Team USA will dominate its counterpart on Tuesday afternoon in France.

The US attack hit its stride against New Zealand, and I think there’s a chance that continues. Team USA scored 4 goals against New Zealand, and beat Guinea 2-1 head-to-head. Team USA should have plenty of great opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net.

Even with 2 of the 3 allowed players over 23 on the roster playing in defense, this team still has a knack for making at least 1 silly mistake a game. I expect that trend to continue, which is why I think Guinea will score exactly 1 goal in this match. But with odds for a 4-1 final score, a repeat of the New Zealand final, at +1750 on BetMGM, I think there’s value in placing a small bet on that exact score.
