The Carolina Panthers will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Everbank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, in Week 2 of the 2026 NFL Preseason. The Jaguars are 1-0 so far, while the Panthers are 1-1 since they also played in the NFL Hall of Fame Game. Kickoff is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. ET.
With team stats being unpredictable and roster movements dictating the potential flow of the game due to the possibility of having several backups across the board, I’m taking a look at the numbers and availability of players to determine which team has the edge in this NFL preseason matchup.
Panthers vs. Jaguars Odds
Odds as of Friday, August 21, 2026 at 2:25 p.m. ET from Kalshi
The odds show the Panthers as favorites, but that’s because they’re not expected to be as aggressive as resting starters as the Jaguars. However, from a pure talent perspective, the Jaguars are the better team. Carolina will scramble in a weak NFC South, while the Jaguars have contending aspirations not only in the AFC South, but in the AFC playoff picture as a whole.
The over/under and the spread are relatively conservative, and that’s even considering that Kalshi offers better odds than traditional sportsbooks. The line for over/under is at 36.5 points, with the spread favoring Carolina at a minuscule 1.5 points. In other words, the game could really go either way.
Our NFL public betting data backs that up. Over 60% of the money, and 53% of the bets, are backing the over. A whopping 66% of the bets and 71% of the money is also going to the Jaguars covering the +1.5 spread, so sharp and public bettors both are confident in the Jaguars being the better team as well.
Panthers vs. Jaguars: Active Roster and Who’s Playing
Let’s take a look at which players might be sidelined for this preseason matchup Friday in Jacksonville.
Carolina Panthers Injury Report for Week 2 of the 2026 NFL Preseason
The Panthers are expected to ease their starters into the game but aren’t likely to play many snaps. The starters logged around 30 snaps in the preseason opener against the Bills on August 15, and if wouldn’t be surprising if the majority of the starters see that kind of workload again in this matchup. Even if the starters suit up for a series or two, expect this game to be played mostly by the backups.
Carolina will be mindful of not taking unnecessary risks with several projected starters who might be in danger of missing Week 1 of the 2026 NFL regular season, though. Chuba Hubbard, who’s projected to open the season as the Panthers’ RB1, is not expected to be available due to a hamstring injury, but the coaching staff believes he’ll be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.
Other starters who might not be available for this matchup include DEs Derrick Brown (knee) and Tershawn Wharton (neck), as well as RT Taylor Moton (illness). If Young plays limited snaps, or if he doesn’t play at all, look for Kenny Pickett and Kyle Trask to see snaps under center. Haynes King, who dazzled in the Hall of Fame Game, is out with a hamstring problem.
Jacksonville Jaguars Injury Report for Week 2 of the 2026 NFL Preseason
The biggest question surrounding the Jaguars is whether the starters will play. Head coach Liam Cohen was noncommittal and uncertain about whether he will play starters and front-line players against the Panthers. Based on his recent statement saying that the starters need to get preseason work before it’s too late, it wouldn’t be shocking if the Jaguars field their starters for a series or two in this contest.
That would mean the Panthers, who aren’t particularly known for their defense, would have their backups going up against the likes of Trevor Lawrence, Jakobi Meyers, Brian Thomas and Bhayshul Tuten. That should give the Jaguars an advantage on paper, as that offensive group is one of the reasons why Jacksonville has decent Odds to Make the NFL Playoffs.
Outside of lineback Jack Kiser (knee), the Jaguars aren’t listing any players projected No. 1 on the depth chart to be sidelined with injuries. However, some of the key contributors who won’t be available for this contest include star wideout Parker Washington (undisclosed), RB LeQuint Allen (undisclosed) and Patrick Mekari (back). This will be the perfect chance for several backups to step up and show they belong in the 53-man roster for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL regular season.
Panthers vs. Jaguars Picks and Prediction
After carefully analyzing the roster situation on both teams, here are my main picks for this contest.
Main Pick: Jaguars to win – 47¢ on Kalshi
The Jaguars have far more talent than the Panthers, and even if they’re not expected to play their regular starters here, they should have enough quality to secure the win in this preseason tune-up. It only takes a quick glance at the NFL win totals or the Super Bowl odds to see the Jaguars ranked noticeably higher than Carolina. That, along with the home-field advantage here, gives Jacksonville the edge on paper in this matchup.
Secondary Pick: Over 36.5 points scored – 51¢ on Kalshi
The Jaguars’ lone preseason meeting thus far ended with a 24-20 win over the New Orleans Saints. Meanwhile, the Panthers lost 29-14 to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 of the preseason, and they secured a 33-30 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game. While it’s not the wisest move to put too much stock in preseason results, it’s clear that neither team defends very well, so we’re backing the over here, even if the offenses won’t have their top-tier talent on each team.
