The bookies expect Bayern to win this and have them as -180 favorites in the Champions League odds with an implied win probability of 61%. Villarreal at +480 for the win has an implied probability of just 16%, while worth noting is that under 2.5 goals is still in plus money at +138.

If you’re new to this sport and need advice on soccer betting’s pros and cons, there are plenty of directions you can go when betting on this game and others.

Glory in Turin for the Submarine

If Villarreal are going to get to the latter stages of this tournament, they are going to do it the hard way. To reach this quarterfinal they had to beat the mighty Juventus and to now progress further they have to beat the even mightier, Bayern Munich – the only team in this year’s competition who are still unbeaten.

Against Juve, the Yellow Submarine thought they had missed their chance when drawing 1-1 at home in the first leg but a sensational performance in Turin’s Allianz Stadium in leg two saw them win 3-0, with goals from, Gerard Moreno, Pau Torres and Arnaut Danjuma – all coming in the final 20 minutes.

Two La Liga Defeats on the Spin

The downside to their thrilling run in the UCL is that Villarreal has started to struggle in La Liga. They followed their historic win in Turin with a disappointing 1-0 defeat by Cadiz and then at the weekend lost 2-0 to Levante.

As a result of those two away defeats, their place in La Liga’s top six is far from assured and they now have to rely on other results to go their way. On the flip side, the Yellow Submarine is on a good run at home, with their nine-game unbeaten run including draws with the two Madrid giants and, of course, Juve.

Salzburg Hit for Seven in Munich

Bayern’s route to the last eight was, in the end, a comfortable one, but there was little sign of this after they were made to fight hard for their 1-1 draw in the first leg of their tie with RB Salzburg. Any fears however of not making it through were soon dispelled in the second leg back in Munich where they won 7-1.

Goals from Robert Lewandowski (3), Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane saw them make light work of what, on paper, looked like a tricky tie; one that was effectively decided by the brilliant Lewandowski’s hat-trick inside the opening 23 minutes.

Bundesliga Almost in the Bag

Bayern still has work to do domestically to clinch the Bundesliga title but a nine-point lead with just six games to go is a more than healthy position. It’s their’s for the taking and at the weekend they warmed up for this game with a 4-1 thumping of fifth-placed Freiburg.

Having exited the UCL at the quarterfinal stage last season, the Bavarians will be desperate to avoid a repeat, and they come into this in great form having just gone eight games without defeat. There is also the small matter of them not losing away from home in the UCL since September 2017.

Villarreal vs Bayern Munich Picks

Those two consecutive La Liga defeats for Villarreal have hindered their domestic progress but you can be sure part of the reason for their La Liga slip-ups is them having one eye on this tie. And they are still very strong at home.

While Bayern will expect to take a lead back to Munich, I expect a resilient Villarreal to make it tough for them and so, for me, the value here is with the draw.

Picks: Villarreal and Bayern Munich to draw (+330)
