Resurgent Werder Bremen can climb out of the Bundesliga’s automatic relegation zone by beating Eintracht Frankfurt at home on Wednesday after unexpectedly hitting form since the German league’s resumption.
Frankfurt will be looking for three points to avoid being dragged down towards the scrap in the lower reaches of the table.
Bremen have taken seven points from the past three matches but oddsmakers still make Frankfurt favorites for a win at +155 even though their resumption record is slightly more patchy.
This makes Bremen better value for a victory at +170 with the game at 2:30 pm EST on June 3 at the Weserstadion.

However, there has been an unexpected twist since the competition returned amid the coronavirus crisis – with only eight home wins recorded in the 36 matches played since May 18.
The draw is priced at +225 and this also looks promising.

Recovery After Shut-Down
Bremen are currently in 17th place in the 18-team league – two points behind fellow strugglers Fortuna Dusseldorf whom they will leapfrog with a win tomorrow.
Werder’s form before the shut-down was dreadful as they earned only one point in a run of six games between January 26 and February 22.
When the Bundesliga returned, the bad news continued with an instant 4-1 home defeat by high-flying Bayer Leverkusen.

But things looked up with a subsequent 1-0 win at Freiburg.
This was followed by a 0-0 draw at home to another high-flying outfit, Borussia Monchengladbach. And last weekend they took advantage of the struggles of Schalke 04 to seal a 1-0 win away at the Veltins Arena.
Frankfurt and Bremen drew 2-2 earlier in the season on October 6.
Bremen’s run of three clean sheets has been particularly impressive, although they have scored only twice in that spell.

There had also been a slump in form for Eintracht as they lost three consecutive times before the shut-down.
This saw them slip from 10th to 12th place, where they currently sit with 32 points.

Two Straight Re-Start Defeats
After the re-start, they suffered two straight comprehensive defeats. First, they fell 3-1 at home against Borussia Monchengladbach. Then came a hefty 5-2 defeat away against leaders Bayern Munich.
Some respite came with a 3-3 draw at home against Freiburg.

Finally, they picked up three points with a surprise 2-1 win away against sixth-placed Wolfsburg in their most recent fixture.
The Bundesliga was the first major European league to return to action with matches played behind closed doors.
The lack of crowds is being suggested as the reason for the apparent scarcity of home advantage in the games played so far.
There has been no win for Bremen on their own turf since September 1.
Bremen’s meeting with Frankfurt is a catch-up date which was postponed ahead of Matchday 24 with the remaining 16 teams having now played 29 games.

They have the worst home record in the competition with that sole victory coupled with three draws and nine defeats.
Just as unimpressively, Frankfurt has the league’s worst away record with only three wins, one draw and 10 defeats on the road.
The return to action has been particularly productive for Frankfurt’s Portuguese striker Andre Silva – on loan from AC Milan – who has scored three times in four games.

Serbian winger Filip Kostic is the club’s leading scorer with 12 goals in all competitions although he has not hit the target in the most recent seven Bundesliga matches.
There is an injury concern for Bremen over former Germany under 21 midfielder Leo Bittencourt, who may miss out after scoring twice in the four games since the resumption. He is on loan from Hoffenheim.
Bremen’s leading scorer is the Kosovan international attacking midfielder Milot Rashica who has 10 goals in all competitions.
Pick: Werder Bremen +170
