Rublev Eases His Way Into The Semifinals

Fourth seed Rublev continues to dominate his way through the ATP tour as he now has a 32-9 record on the season, including a title. The Russian defeated his quarterfinal opponent, Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6(4), 6-2 in just over an hour to earn his spot in the final four.

This will be Rublev’s sixth semifinal of this year, and he just managed to outplay his opponent from start to finish in this match. On route to the win he recorded 29 wins, and fired off nine aces. His serve was once again a huge strength of his. He landed 72 percent of his first serves, and converted 80 percent of those to points.

From Qualifiers to the Semifinals

29-year old Basilashvili went on to defeated his quarterfinal opponent Lloyd harris 6-4, 7-6(5) in just under two hours to continue his run at the Halle Open. With this win, he improves his record to 19-15 on the season.

He’s had quite a run at the tournament so far, and has only dropped one set. In his quarterfinal match, he managed to comeback from being down 4-5 in the second set. Along with Rublev, Basilashvili’s serve was a strength in his quarterfinal match as well, landing 72 percent of his first serves, and winning 78 percent of his first service points.

This will be the fifth time these two have played each other in their careers, and they head-to-head record is currently split at 2-2. Rublev has won the past two meetings, with the most recent happening in the Round of 32 at The Rotterdam Open in 2020.

Best Bet

It’s tough to bet against Rublev here. But Basilashvili has shown that he’s been able to find success against the Russian.

Rublev has yet to drop a set in his three matches he’s played this tournament. He’s played well and has been tested here and there, but has been able to capitalize on his opponent’s errors and hone in on his serves.

Both players have the opportunity to take the win here, but I do think Rublev has the slight edge. If he can continue his hard accurate serves, and keep his unforced errors count down, he should probably be able to earn his spot in the final.

Best Bet: Rublev 2-0 (-120)
