Near Perfection for Barty

The 25-year old Aussie has yet to drop a set through four matches here in Cincinnati, and is looking for her fifth title of the season. She now leads the tour with 39 wins this year, and only seven losses.

To say she hasn’t really been tested this tournament, wouldn’t be far from the truth. She truly dominated, and is coming off a 6-2, 7-5 win over Angelique Kerber, where she recorded 12 aces to only one double fault.

She’s been able to rely on her serve all tournament, and her variety in her game has won her the matches.

Teichmann will be an interesting opponent for Barty, as they’ve never played each other before, but it doesn’t seem like the Swiss will give her that much trouble.

Wild Card to the Finals

The 24-year old has been having herself quite the week. Being unseeded, she has an extra match under her belt, so she’s spent a bit more time on the court, but she has three consecutive upsets that earned her a spot in the final.

Teichmann started making headlines in Cincy when she upset Naomi Osaka after losing the first set, but then she continued by beating Belinda Bencic in straight sets, and most recently Karolina Pliskova 6-2, 6-4.

The Swiss is a very well-rounded player, similar to Barty in that sense, which is what could make this extremely interesting. The two titles that Teichmann does hold came on clay, but it’s worth noting that she really has stood out on the hardcourt surface this past year.

Barty is a very tough opponent, but regardless of the outcome here, Teichmann has solidified a name for herself on this tour.

Head-to-Head

These two have never seen each other on tour before, so we don’t have any previous matches to go off of. But with the way both have been playing tonight, it should be a really exciting, cloe match.

Best Bet

It always tough to find a reason to bet against Barty. There have been times that she comes up short. She lost her opening match at the Olympics. But this doesn’t seem to be the tournament that she won’t be able to win at. She’s just been so lights out from start to finish, it’s hard to think that she won’t be able to dominate or at least find a way to win this final match.

Teichmann does have a point to prove, and will be entering the match with a bit of a chip on her shoulder. The 24-year old has knocked out some of the best, most consistent players on tour this tournament. She is playing the best tennis of her career, and is currently on her best run yet.

What Barty does so well, which aside from experience and level of play, is her mindset. She’s so good and being present, and able to execute at any given time. And really that comes from experience. It sounds cliche to say that that could be the difference in this match, but it’s true. Even just the fact that Barty is in her sixth final of the season, competing for a fifth title speaks volume.

Best Bet: Barty (-450)
