Fourth seed Barbora Krejcikova will take on unseeded American Madison Keys later tonight at 8:30pm ET, in one of four quarterfinal matches being played at the 2022 Australian Open for women’s singles.

Krejcikova is the slight favorite heading into the match, and not surprising as she had the second best odds to win the second quarter. Keys’ odds, on the other hand, were listed at +1400 to come out of the quarter, and her opening Australian Open odds were even longer at +3500, but have shorten dramatically.

Krejčíková Defeats Two-Time Champ

If you were to have told the 26-year old a year ago where she would be today, it’s possible she wouldn’t believe. 2021 was a career changing year for the Czech. She started her year outside the Top 100, and is now ranked No. 4, thanks to a few title wins, including the 2021 French Open.

On route to the quarterfinals here at the Aussie Open, Krejcikova has only dropped one set. It happened in the third round against Jelena Ostapenko, but the 26-year old battle back to take the win. In her fourth round match, she dominated former Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka, to win 6-2, 6-2.

In arguably her best match of the tournament, Krejcikova needed just 85 minutes to hold off the former World No. 1. She has now reached the quarterfinals for the third time in four Grand Slam tournaments. Can she reach the semis?

Keys Continues to Climb the Rankings

It had been a minute since the 26-year old American saw herself in a major’s quarterfinal. The last time would’ve been the 2019 French Open. She entered 2022 with a point to prove. In 2021, Keys only managed to win 11 matches. Now a lot of factors played into that, but not even a month into 2022, she not only already captured a title, she could win her 11th match of the year if she takes this quarterfinal against Krejcikova.

The American will enter the quarterfinals having dropped just one set, and will be entering the match on a high, as she upset eighth seed and one of the top favorites, Paula Badosa, winning 6-3, 6-1. She recorded 26 winners to just 18 unforced errors to capture the win.

Her fourth round win was not her first upset of the tournament. She started off strong by sending home former Aussie Open champion Sofia Kenin in just the first round.

Momentum seems to be on her side this time around.

Krejčíková vs Keys Head-to-Head

This is the first meeting between the pair, so their head-to-head record stands at 0-0. But the two have played each other in doubles, so they’re not completely unfamiliar with each other, they’ve seen each other on the court. But the doubles game is completely different than singles.

Krejčíková vs Keys Best Bet

Both players are coming off such strong wins, and are having incredible tournaments.

Krejcikova and Keys are both powerful players that bring that to their matches, but Krejcikova holds more variety in her game, which could come in handy here.

Just given her consistency over the course of last year, and continuing here in 2022, Krejcikova seems to have the slight edge. Keys is just starting to come back and show consistency again. After such a struggle last year, she’s doing incredible in 2022, but up against a played that has the months of success over her, it’s hard to be convinced that she’d be able to take the win.

But with that being said, at this point, it does seem like it could be anyone’s match at this point, so the best bet is leaning towards the match to go the distance. Look for this quarterfinal match to be a tight three set battle.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+145)
