Carlos Alcaraz Betting Analysis

Prior to this year, Alcaraz had the reputation of being very green on grass. He’d played just six grass court matches at the ATP level, posting a 4-2 record. Safe to say, after his performance in two grass court evens this year, he’s shed that label.

Alcaraz is a perfect 9-0 on grass in 2023, dropping just three sets. He won the Queen’s Club tournament two weeks ago, and has made quick work of his Wimbledon opponents so far.

His toughest test came on Monday in the Round of 16, but former Wimbledon runner-up Mario Berrettini was no match for the Spaniard. Alcaraz dropped the opening set on Center Court, but breezed through the next three sets in clinical fashion.

He broke the hard serving Berrettini four times thanks to some outstanding return play, setting up his first quarterfinal appearance ever at the All England Club. Alcaraz pounded 35 winners and committed 10 fewer unforced errors than his opponent, while limiting Berrettini to just 67 percent of first serve points won.

Alcaraz, who boasts the second shortest Wimbledon odds, appears to be on a collision course with Djokovic in the final. The ladder has won each of the season’s first two Grand Slams, after Alcaraz picked up his maiden Grand Slam victory last year at the US Open.

Holger Rune Betting Analysis

While Alcaraz has already experienced Grand Slam glory, both Rune and Sinner are still searching for their first taste. Rune was even more green on grass entering 2023 than Alcaraz, having zero tour-level victories on the surface.

He changed that quickly at the Queen’s Club, reeling off three victories before falling in the semifinals. Rune has looked like a seasoned grass court specialist so far during this Wimbledon run, knocking off two top-30 opponents, including Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 16.

The 20-year-old Dane fought back from an early dropped set, to sweep the final three sets, striking with more aggression and power in the two tie-breakers that ultimately sealed Dimitrov’s fate.

Rune becomes only the second Danish man to ever reach the Wimbledon quarters, and advances to the third Grand Slam quarterfinal of his career. He’s yet to get past that stage, and will have his hands full with Alcaraz on Wednesday. The good news is, there’s likely no player on Tour that knows the Spaniard’s game as well as Rune.

Alcaraz vs Rune Predictions

The two grew up playing together, starting at the age of 12. They were doubles partners by 13 and have spent hours upon hours on the court together. Alcaraz and Rune have met just twice as professionals however, with each claiming one victory. Both matches took place on hard court, with Rune taking the latest meeting at last year’s 1000 series event in Paris.

44-4 W-L (2023) 37-12
1-1 Head-to-Head Record 1-1

Both budding superstars are at the top of their games right now, and Wednesday’s match should be a tightly contested affair. There’s no value on Alcaraz at such a steep price, but at the same time his form is simply too good to bet against over a best-of-five match.

That brings the total squarely into play. Rune has the firepower to go toe-to-toe with Alcaraz, and while an upset is unlikely, we should expect the Dane to take at least one set, if not two. Expect this match to sail over 36.5 games.

Pick: Over 36.5 Games (-125)
