Tiafoe Continues to Impress at Home
The 24-year has been breezing through this week. Tiafoe took straight set wins over Lorenzo Sonego and Jack Draper in the first and second round, to earn a spot in the round of 16 against Alex de Minaur.
Tiafoe came out of the gate strong, catching the Australian off guard a bit. He was able to go up 3-1 in the first set, and take it fairly easily. The second set had a bit of a different narrative. De Minaur came out a bit stronger in the second set, as it was do or die for him. Tiafoe found himself down 3-5, and in a position where he broke de Minaur, as he was unable to close out the set.

The match eventually went to a tiebreak before Tiafoe closed it out, winning 6-3, 7(7)-6(5) to book a spot in the quarterfinals.
Auger-Aliassime Ends Simons’s Run
As the eight seed, Auger-Aliassime received a bye through the first round. He opened his tournament up against Mikael Ymer, who tested the young Canadian in every way possible. Auger-Aliassime wasn’t in his best form necessarily during the match, but the mistakes did almost cost him the tournament. The 22-year old went on to win 6(6)-7(8), 6-4, 7(8)-6(6).
His round of 16 match looked very different than his previous one. Auger-Aliassime barely broke a sweat on route to his 6-1, 6-3 win over Gilles Simon. He looked more poised and polished than he had just 24 hours earlier.

With the win, he’s kept his 15-match streak alive, and will look to extend it as he takes on Tiafoe in his 16th quarterfinal appearance of 2022.
