Odds as of May 29th at DraftKings

Anhelina Kalinina vs Angelique Kerber Prediction

Former World No. 1 Angelique Kerber is only the slight favorite as she takes on 24-year old Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina.

Kerber has three Grand Slam titles under her belt, but has never been able to capture the French Open, or get passed the quarterfinals for that matter. She’s had less than an ideal year, heading into the tournament with 8-8 record. She’s been struggling in form for quite sometime, and will be looking for some sort of answer in these early rounds in Paris. But Kalinina might give her a tough match.

The 24-year old enters her first main draw at the French Open after not dropping a set over the course of three qualifying matches. She hasn’t necessarily been present at WTA events, but has been showing up more in ITF tournaments, and she’s been doing well there, having won two back-to-back events right before this Grand Slam.

Kalinina’s recent success makes this interesting.

Best Bet: Kalinina (+135)

Amanda Anisimova vs Veronika Kudermetova Prediction

24-year old Kudermetova is the favorite heading into this match against American Anisimova, and the two have never played each other on tour before.

Anisimova is coming off a decent showing in Pharma, where she eventually lost to Coco Gauff, who went on to win. The 19-year old reached the semifinals here in Paris in 2019, and won her first WTA title later that year. But unfortunately she hasn’t really be able to breakthrough since. She did manage to make it to the third round of the French Open last year, and has always faired well on clay.

Kudermetova has yet to have a really strong showing at a Grand Slam, having never really been able to go deep in a tournament. But after winning the Charleston Open and making the finals of the Istanbul Open, both of which are played on clay, maybe 2021 is her year.

Best Bet: Kudermetova 2-0 (+180)

Danielle Collins vs Xiyu Wang Prediction

This match could be a really amazing story in the making. Danielle Collins of the United States is making her return to tennis after taking just eight weeks off to recover after a surgery to treat her endometriosis. Collins has been training over the past two weeks, but hadn’t played a match since she lost to Veronika Kudermetova in the Miami Open at the end of March.

She’ll be taking on 20-year old qualifier Wang, who will be competing in the main draw of a Major for just the second time in her career, and the first time here at the French Open.

This will be the first meeting between the two players, and it’ll be an interesting match for sure. Despite Collins’ break, she has had success over her career, and did reach the quarterfinals here in Paris last year.

I think going into this match, fatigue and fitness will be one of the biggest factors. We haven’t seen Collins play in a bit, but the big stage could also get to Wang. If Collins’ athleticism is in tact, then I do believe experience will allow her to triumph here.

Best Bet: Collins (+100)
