The Favorite

20-year old Swiatek entered this tournament as the number one seed, and continues to enter her matches as the favorite to win.

She’s coming off a straight set win over unseeded Yulia Putintseva, who she beat in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4. In only her second indoors WTA main draw of her career, Swiatek put on a show, as both players showed up, and played a top-quality match.

In her win, Swiatek managed to convert three of seven breakpoints, and only dropped her serve once.

She’ll now look forward to Rybakina, who is sure to be her toughest opponent of the tournament to date. The two players have not played each other before in their careers, but it’ll be sure to be a close match.

Rybakina’s Sixth Quarterfinal of the Season

Earlier today, seventh seed Rybakina earned her spot in her sixth quarterfinal of the 2021 season. The 22-year old defeated qualifier Magda Linette 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, in just over an hour and a half.

On route to her win, Rybakina served up 11 aces, and only five double faults. She landed 60 percent of her first serves, and had a 73 win percentage when landing that first serve.

After a commanding first set win, Rybakina lost control of the match in the second set, which led to Linette forcing a decider. In that third set, Rybakina was able to produce a commanding lead, which led to her taking the match.

She will now look to take on first seed, Iga Swiatek in their first meeting at the pro level.

Head-to-Head

This will be the first meeting between these two players at the pro level, as their head-to-head currently stands at 0-0. The two had met twice before in juniors, where they split the head-to-head record 1-1. Swiatek took their first meeting on hard courts in 2016, and Rybakina took their meeting on clay in 2017.

Best Bet

This is sure to be a close match between the two. Technically Swiatek is entering the match as the favorite, but not by much.

Both players will look to their serve to be a big part of their game, as it’s been something both have relied on.

Swiatek has had a bit more of overall success this year, which could lead to her being the favorite coming it. But with only match under her belt this week, she might still really just be warming up.

Rybakina is coming off a more intense match, and if she’s able to bring that intensity here, it could be very interesting.

Expect this match to go the distance, but unfortunately those odds haven’t been posted yet. The best bet here would be Swiatek, but expect it to go the distance.

Best Bet: Swiatek 2-1 (+295)
