Swiatek vs Andreescu is going to be one of the more eagerly-anticipated WTA Tour matches in quite a while.

And the world No. 1, who is riding a 25-match winning streak that has brought her four tournament titles in a row, may have a battle on her hands.

Shockingly massive, actually, given Andreescu’s illustrious resumé, multi-faceted game and the fact that there’s no history between them to compare.

But it’s understandable given Swiatek hasn’t lost since … February.

In February, Andreescu was still more than two months away from even starting her 2022 campaign, as she was in the middle of a six-month break to take care of her mental health, and had barely even gotten back into the gym.

Andreescu Impressive Through Three Rounds

Earlier in the week, Andreescu was involved in another highly-anticipated clash – a first-round meeting with 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu.

Raducanu is the new golden girl, of course – much like Andreescu was after winning the 2019 US Open at age 19. Except … even more.

Andreescu was clearly pumped up for that one. But it wasn’t needed, Raducanu retired early in the second set with a back issue.

The Canadian might have had a letdown in the second round against lucky loser Nuria Parrizas Diaz. But she didn’t. Despite some good pushback from the late-blooming Spaniard, Andreescu took it 6-3, 7-6 (4).

The good draw continued as her next opponent was a qualifier, Petra Martic.

Andreescu’s level was up and down. But Martic had move severe swings of form, and some issues on her serve. And she didn’t pull out her full tool kit to disrupt Andreescu’s rhythm.

The result was another straight-sets win.

So even though this is the first time Andreescu has won three straight matches since last year’s US Open – and only the fourth time in the last 2 1/2 years – she’s fresh.

Swiatek Withstands Azarenka Challenge

On a windy day Thursday, with the stands fairly sparse, the world No. 1 took on the former world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka.

Azarenka, 33 this year, is not what she was. But she put up fierce opposition in a first set that took well over an hour and more than 100 points to decide.

Only 30 of those points were on Azarenka’s serve; 74 came on Swiatek’s serve. And yet she still won it.

Swiatek saved 8-of-11 break points on her own serve in that set; she converted on 4-of-5 opportunities to break Azarenka’s serve.

After that, the second set wasn’t much more than a formality.

How Does Swiatek vs Andreescu Match Up?

So far during her brief 2022 season, Andreescu has played some top players who didn’t play well or were injured (Danielle Collins, Raducanu).

She was beaten by an in-form Aryna Sabalenka in Stuttgart. And in Madrid, Jessica Pegula – who went on to reach the final – was just far too solid.

This is a different level for the Canadian, who will have to return a very good serve effectively. And as often as possible, she will have to try to dictate the points with her own serve and return.

Because whenever Swiatek has gotten the upper hand in rallies the last few months, she has fired off winners.

We expect Swiatek to win this one in two sets. However, it’s likely they will be two close sets. So as tennis prop bets go, taking the over for 20.5 games (+115) is a reasonable choice.

Taking Swiatek and -2.5 games (-140) also seems likely.

That said, +610 for Andreescu to win, given her street cred, is one of the more tempting long shots we’ve seen.
