Frenchman Luca Van Assche will be back in front of his compatriot fans on Saturday morning when he clashes with American Ben Shelton in the semifinals of the 2026 Paris Masters. First serve is scheduled for 8:30 am ET. The winner will face the winner of Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud in Sunday’s final.

I have scoured all available data to find the strongest picks and predictions for Saturday’s clash between the home underdog and the American chalk.

Luca Van Assche vs Ben Shelton Picks & Predictions

Shelton enters as the world No. 4 with 4,530 ATP ranking points, well ahead of the No. 47-ranked Van Assche and his 1,105 points. Shelton is the stronger player on the underlying ratings, but the size of that gap alone does not make a short handicap a safe bet.

Game-Spread Pick: Van Assche +3.5 (-112 at Kalshi)

Shelton’s serve is the clearest advantage: Tennis Ratio’s 52-week comparison has him winning 89.9% of service games to Van Assche’s 77.2%, taking 76.6% of first-serve points to 69.0%, and averaging 0.73 aces per game to Van Assche’s 0.35. His overall dominance ratio is also higher, 1.165 to 1.009. Those numbers support Shelton as the favorite, but they do not erase Van Assche’s ability to make the return games count: he wins 29.2% of return games compared with Shelton’s 14.4%, and converts 47.4% of break points versus 36.7% for Shelton.

The ratings point to a Shelton win, not necessarily a four-game margin. Tennis Abstract’s current Elo has Shelton at 1,959.8 and Van Assche at 1,762.2, while their hard-court Elo ratings are 1,925.0 and 1,715.8. That is a meaningful edge for Shelton, but Van Assche’s return profile gives him a route to breaks and to keeping sets close—exactly what matters with a 3.5-game cushion.

Their Paris form reinforces the underdog spread. Shelton’s wins over Rinderknech and Paul both went three sets, after a straight-sets win over Norrie. Van Assche has won four straight, including a three-set win over Musetti, and his three-set victory over Hijikata. The four three-set Paris matches between them all cleared 23.5 games, illustrating the competitiveness that makes Van Assche +3.5 the better spread price at -112, even though Shelton remains the likelier winner.

Total-Games Pick: Over 23.5 (+122 at Kalshi)

The Over is the better side of the total at plus-money. Shelton’s strong serve gives him a reliable platform, but Van Assche’s stronger return numbers create opportunities to pressure him rather than simply trade holds.

Both players have also played lengthy matches in Paris: two of Shelton’s three wins and two of Van Assche’s four wins went beyond 23.5 games. The Over at +122 is my preferred total; it is a value lean, not a certainty.

Van Assche vs Shelton Odds: Paris Semis

Player Moneyline Game Spread Total Games
Luca Van Assche +316 +3.5 (-112) O 23.5 (+122)
Ben Shelton -334 -3.5 (+104) U 23.5 (-127)

Odds are Kalshi’s cent-based prices converted to American odds as of Nov 7, 2026.

The betting markets heavily favor the top-five player, but utilizing alternative platforms provides superior payouts compared to standard sportsbooks. Here are the best available odds for this semifinal clash.

Ben Shelton opens as a decisive moneyline favorite, reflecting his elite global status. Backing Luca Van Assche offers a substantial underdog return, giving bettors a lucrative option if they project a massive upset.

The 3.5-game spread requires Shelton to win by at least four games to cover the handicap. The total is set at 23.5, with the Over at +122 and Under at -127; given the serve-versus-return contrast and both players’ recent close matches, I prefer the Over despite Shelton remaining the stronger side.

Head-to-Head History: Shelton vs Van Assche

Shelton and Van Assche have never met before on the ATP Tour (or elsewhere).

With zero historical data available, my handicap falls back on seasonal metrics, surface-specific data, and the substantial ranking differential.
