Sam Querrey vs Pablo Carreno Busta Prediction
American Sam Querrey will take on 11th seed Pablo Carreno Busta in their opening match in London.
Querrey is no stranger to Wimbledon, having found success in previous years. He had a semifinal appearance in 2017, and made the quarterfinals in both 2016 and 2019. Leading up to this year’s event, the 33-year old had a pretty impressive run on grass with a semifinal appearance in Stuttgart, and was most recently runner-up at the Mallorca Open this past Saturday.
Carreno Busta has also have a handful of appearance at Wimbledon, but he’s never been able to make it out of the first round. His only grass court tournament appearance prior to Wimbledon this year will have been the Mallorca Open. But he did manage a semifinal appearance.
These two players have only seen each other once before, and that was back in Stockholm in 2019, where Carreno Busta won in three sets.
On paper there is a pretty stark difference in success when you compare these two players, but if you look specifically at Wimbledon, that’s when everything points to Querrey, which includes his his big serve. And that’s what makes this interesting.
Best Bet: Querrey (-106); Over 4.5 sets (+225)
Aslan Karatsev vs Jeremy Chardy Prediction
This will be the first meeting between these two players. Karatsev has been having himself quite an impressive 2021 season since making his Grand Slam debut earlier at the Australian Open. The Russian played his first professional match on grass this past month at the Queen’s Club Championship. Despite losing in the second round, he was able to notch a win against Alejandro Tabilo after losing the first set.
Karatsev enters Wimbledon with a 23/10 record on the year, which includes a title win. This has been undoubtedly been his breakout year.
Chardy will look to breakout of his losing streak here in London. In his past three tournament, he’s been unable to get past the first round. Unfortunately grass hasn’t been the best surface to Chardy in the past as he currently poses a losing record on the surface.
This looks to be Karatsev’s match to lose, but don’t be surprised if Chardy is able to steal a set or two.
Best Bet: Karatsev 3-1 (+360)
Sebastian Korda vs Alex De Minaur Prediction
Sebastian Korda will open up his Wimbledon tournament against 15th seed Alex De Minaur. Korda doesn’t have a ton of grass surface match experience to go off of, as he played his first few just earlier this month. But the 20-year old impressed many.
De Minaur on the other hand has always played very well on grass. And the Australian is coming off a win at the Eastbourne International. But will fatigue play into this opening Wimbledon match? He just collected the title this past Saturday in a match that went three sets. But he’s also been consistent with his impressive showings with both quarterfinal and semifinal appearances on top of the title win.

This has the makings of a really exciting match, that won’t be an easy win for either player. I think Korda has all the makings for a great player, but it looks like de Minaur might have the slight edge here
Best Bet: de Minaur 3-0 (+300)
