There are only two former champions in the Wimbledon men’s draw – Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray – but a couple of former finalists in Milos Raonic and Matteo Berrettini will try to battle through injury issues and make their mark Tuesday.

Raonic vs Novak Prediction
Some of the best moments of Milos Raonic’s career have come at Wimbledon; some of the worst as well. He’s one of the rare players in the men’s draw who’s actually made a final – in 2016.
But the 32-year-old Canadian was out nearly two years with a variety of injuries before returning at ‘s-Hertogenbosch, three weeks ago, to start a comeback of undetermined length. He looked good, too, in his opening match. But then he lost the next one, and withdrew from a second tournament with a shoulder injury.

Assuming he’s reasonably good to go, he could be a dark horse. He shouldn’t have a problem with the qualifier Novak, who was actually his third-round opponent at Wimbledon back in 2018. Raonic won that one in four sets.
Novak, now 29, qualified that year as well; indeed, this is the fourth consecutive time he’s made the main draw the hard way. But five years on, his ranking hasn’t changed that much (he was No. 171 then; he’s No. 159 now).
Ultimately he’s a capable grass-court player. But if Raonic can even serve at a reasonable level, he should get through.
Raonic vs Novak Pick: Raonic in Four Sets (+275)
Sakkari vs. Kostyuk Prediction
Sakkari, the No. 8 seed, has a 24-13 record in 2023 that makes her season look better than it actually has been. She started well, but has suffered some early-round losses as well.
This is her seventh Wimbledon, and she has never made it to the second week.
Kostyuk, who turned 21 just a few days ago even if it feels like she’s been around forever, has only played Wimbledon twice and went out in the second round both times. She also played just one grass-court match in the leadup to the big event.
That said, she’s having a confident season. And she also has a lot of tools that translate well to grass.
Kostyuk is ranked No. 36, which left her just a few out of the seeding for Wimbledon.
It feels like a danger match for Sakkari (even though she’s 2-0 vs Kostyuk), one she could lose at worst or will need to win in three, at best. The physicality she counts on to win the majority of her matches doesn’t serve her particularly well on the grass.

Matteo Berrettini vs Lorenzo Sonego Prediction
Poor Matteo Berrettini, who reached the 2021 Wimbledon men’s singles final but couldn’t maximize because of a thigh injury, has been hampered by an oblique/abdominal issue most of this season. (He also had issues with this in 2021).
After playing a lot of tennis at the United Cup event in January, he’s won just three matches and played just five events.
After being out more than two months since an aborted effort in Monte Carlo, Berrettini tried to come back in Stuttgart, whose title sponsor, Hugo Boss, is also his personal sponsor and where he won a year ago.
There, he played … Lorenzo Sonego. And got just three games.
The two were drawn to face each other again in the first round of Wimbledon. And you wouldn’t expect the outcome to be much different despite the fact that the odds are relatively close.
